Fishing is done via our professional self-drive boats and is only a matter of minutes away from the harbour. All you have to travel is just a short journey, and then you can be fishing out for both – giant Halibut and Cod. Sudureyri is a Cod fishing in Iceland destination, unlike no other, situated on the coast of Iceland; you will be fishing some of the most nutrient-rich waters you will find. In turn, this means that your fishing could be extremely frantic, find a large shoal of Cod, and you could well find that you are left exhausted by all the arm-wrenching action that you will be experiencing. Along with the outstanding sport from the Cod that you could find, you will also have the chance to try and fish for the mighty Halibut. These enormous flatfish are one of, if not the hardest, fighting fish you will find in these waters, and they will pull your string. The fishing methods mainly used are done using shads and pirks and working at various depths to find the fish. If, however, you wished to try and specifically fish for Halibut, we would strongly advise using anti-twist leads, and fish baits drifted on or near the bottom. Along with the famous Cod fishing that Iceland can produce, the species that can catch here include Wolffish, Coalfish and Plaice, all targeted either using pirks or traces baited with worms or small bits of fish.
Our boats are Icelandic made Seigla boats tailor-made for sea fishing on the open sea around Iceland. The boats are 7.80 metres long and 2.85 meters wide with 130 horsepower turbo diesel engine (inboard engine). Onboard we provide all the equipment you need: GPS plotter, Eco-load, Radio to coast-guard, GPS security signal, life vest, lifeboat, extra tank for fuel and rod rests.
The boats are self-drive, but guides are available upon request, so please check for availability. There will always be somebody at the camp that will help with any question you may have whilst on your holiday. Sudureyri is an excellent destination for all, as the accommodation is top class. Of course, the fishing area is the best to ensure everyone has the North of Iceland’s best experience. As mentioned previously, this destination suits all abilities as you have nice weather, protected fjords and the option of fishing the open ocean. If it is the largest of the Cod you are after, we recommend travelling in March and April, as the average weight is enormous. Halibut and Coalfish fishing happen around the same time, which is May to September, with the peak months being July and August for Halibut and Coalfish.
The destination of Sudoreyri, located on the Western side of Iceland’s beautiful coastline, is a small Icelandic fishing village that’s perched on the tip of the 13 km-long Súgandafjörður in the Westfjords. The location provides the visiting angler with plenty of fantastic fishing opportunities, fishing both in the fjord and on the open sea both being very good.
The houses on offer on this Cod fishing in Iceland holiday are located on the harbour’s edge, meaning you get stunning ocean views from all the places. These were built recently with anglers in mind. Each house has two twin-bedded bedrooms and a single room, fully equipped modern kitchens, private bathrooms and a good-sized lounge with a TV, sofa and dining table. You can find shops, a pub/restaurant, and a harbour with a gas station to fill your boats in the village. You will find all the groceries you would typically find at home plus many Icelandic surprises at the shops.
As this is a self-catering holiday, we would strongly suggest taking a coolbox with you as an extra bag; this will enable you to take most food out with you. We would recommend doing this as the food in Iceland is very pricey compared to UK costs. Take items such as meats, rice and pasta with you in this coolbox, but as there is a shop nearby, you can purchase all your fresh items such as milk, bread and eggs there.
The kitchen comes complete with all the modern appliances to prepare your meals and includes a coffee maker. Your cutlery is also included with plates and bowls and saucepans to prepare meals.
When staying at Sudoreyri, you will be mainly fishing, but there are also other things to do. These include swimming at the fantastic outdoor swimming pool in the town or heading down to the lagoon to feed the fish that inhabit here as the tide runs. After you have cleared customs, an Iceland Pro representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Hafnarfjordur. This is 20 minutes from Reykjavík.
Overnight Accommodation: Hotel Viking or Hotel Hafnarfjordur (Twin rooms) B/B
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the domestic airport for your flight to the Westfjords, which are approximately 45 min.
Depart Reykjavík
Arrive Isafjordur
On arrival in Isafjordur, you will be transferred to Suðureyri, where you will be greeted by our fishing guide. Alternatively, we will provide you with a hire car so you can drive yourself.
Overnight Accommodation: Suðureyri Cabins (Twin room) S/C
Over the next 6 days fishing, you are free to come and go as you please with regards to time. Our guides will show you the equipment on your boat and make sure that you are happy with it. This is then your chance to quiz the guide on the going marks. He will do his very best to help you achieve everything from your trip, he may even tell you his favourite marks. Once you have finished your fishing days and are on the way back to the land you will need to radio through to the harbour master who will then arrange for your fish to be taken from your boat.

In the morning you will be transferred back to the airport, ready for your departure flight back to Reykjavík. Alternatively, if you have chosen the hire car then make your way back to the airport to drop off your hire car.

On arrival in Reykjavík, our staff will meet you and take you back to the hotel in Hafnarfjordur.

Northwest iceland is a fantastic place to fish in 30 meters of water we caught cod and wolffish over 10pounds in 50 meters we had cod close to 40 pounds the wind was quite strong all week if the conditions had of been better we would have caught larger fish

We travelled in early April and boy was it cold. Biggest tip I can tell you is take lots of clothes and good thermals. When we could get out to the Cod marks the fishing was great but we had some bad weather which restricted where we could fish. Still had a good laugh
Iceland didnt let us down yet again. The cabins have been decorated and are looking much better. Thanks for the hats we have got some great pictures if you want them

After seeing fishing programmes on Iceland and having visited Norway a few times in the past this was to be a new experience for us and we are so glad we decided to do it. The fishing seemed better than Norway with more fish available. We travelled in the summer time and found it to be very pleasant weather wise and like i mentioned the fishing was very good
The only thing we did find is that to bring fish back home we had to get the local fish factory to process our fish and then pay them for doping it….. We were not that impressed but after looking in to it we then realised that this is the law in Iceland, we will know for next time

I have been to both the locations you are talking about and i may have to agree with you about Iceland being better. i have been to Iceland in both winter and summer and had great catches from both boat and shore
It is a pain about having to get the fish factories to fillet your fish but that is the way the law is in Iceland, it is their way of cutting down on waist. the process is a little expensive but what isn't in Iceland….

This really was a disaster trip, the weather was horrible for the whole week and we thought that we were going to be able to have a guide to drive us in these bad conditions. If we would of realised it was sea fishing and not fjord fishing we would of gone on a hosted trip to Norway and let some one else drive in those rough seas. The cabins were small and should of been advertised more clearly as twin rooms.......
Each day we could of done with an update on the weather conditions but there was no one around to help with this and it is maybe something that you should make people aware of. When we booked this Paul said it was self drive which we did not have a problem with, the problem we had was that no one in our party had experience of driving in the sea.

Such a shame you had a bad experience. The weather plays a huge part in sea fishing in both Norway and Iceland and can have major effects on where and when you can fish, but being a fisherman you have to understand that the weather is something we all have to give way to? Did any body on the trip have a phone that could of connected to the free WiFi on site to check the weather?
Excellent trip cod to 50lb and we had 12 Halibut
Our luggage didnt trun up until two days in to the holiday. A bit of a disaster but the guides helped us with some extra clothes and rented us tackle. once the bags turned up we all had a great time. The pre trip information needs a little bit of updating with regards to tackle to take. We found that pirks done the best

Highlight of the holiday was the by far the fishing. The journey getting there was long and having the two nights at the start and end was not needed
2 things come to mind, firstly our 2 Nd plane was damaged and we had a coach take us to Flaterie which took 8 Hours, secondly the fish we caught were collected by the harbour and then the journey home was tiwe were told that to buy a box it had to be pre-ordered, therefore none was taken back, something you need to rectify. The journey home was tiring but we knew that , we left on Tuesday at 2pm and arrived home in Redhill on Wednesday at 2pm, but still enjoyed the experience.

With regards to fish in Iceland, we are always very honest with all our customers with regards to this matter. I personally speak to every group that travels to Iceland and always make a point of mentioning that you must keep ALL the fish you catch. Once you get back to harbour you have to radio through to the harbour master and they will remove your fish you have caught. This goes towards the whole of Iceland's fish quoter. Then if you wish to bring fish home you then have to contact the fish factory and place your order. You will then be charged a certain amount and be given the fish that are in season. This is a rule of Iceland and people who travel there must adhere to, sorry if you did not understand this before you arrived there.
