Brilliant Start 2013 Crocodile Bay

Brilliant Start 2013 Crocodile Bay

Brilliant Start 2013 Crocodile Bay Hope every body had a great Christmas and are pleased to be back at work. With all this bad weather we keep reading about in the UK, we thought we might try and cheer you up by adding this report from our Lodge in Costa Rica, Crocodile Bay. The sun is shinning and the fish are biting so why not treat your self to a break and try your luck with some of the Big Game species that this area of the world is known for.

As you can see from the pictures below, their guests had a fantastic couple of weeks catching and releasing lots of prize fish. The month of January is normally a little slow for Marlin, but not this year! It has and still is very good. The Sailfish have also been showing up in huge numbers, giving some spectacular fights with many aerial displays.

We were sent this brief monthly January report from our Head Captain, Todd Staley:

1st January – 21st 2013

The marlins have thinned a little as expected as the Costa Rica summer sets in but the sailfish are out there in big numbers. Anglers are seeing between 5 and 10 a day and on exceptional days up to 18 or 20. Dorado in the 20 to 30 lbs range has also been very active and the yellowfin tuna still make an appearance every few days. Most of the tuna have been running from 40 to 60 lbs but several over 100 lbs have filled the sushi bar and supplied thick tuna steaks for the guests.

Inshore roosterfish have been playing hide and seek but when they come out to play they are big, 30 to 60 lbs. African pompano, Bluefin trevally and plate size snapper have been the norm. The biggest snapper taken this week was around 30 lbs and was released.

22nd January – 4th February 2013

Fishing has picked up over the last two weeks and the sails have been a lot more consistent. We have seen quite a few marlins still, one of the guys started his return trip here with a 300 pound blue.

Roosterfish and snapper are keeping lines tight inshore and snapper have supplied meals to many inshore anglers.

A good friend was nice enough to send some photo of his recent fishing trip as he released several sailfish and brought in some Dorado for dinner. Thanks for the photos. Hope to see you next year!

Looks like they have had great month and if you fancy your chances at hooking one of these stunning Sailfish then it looks like January is your best chance. So why not give us a call on 01603 407596 and we can help you organise a trip of a life time to this most stunning and picturesque part of the world.
