Alphonse Island Fly Fishing Report 2nd – 9th October 2021

This week on Alphonse Islands was blessed with some fantastic weather conditions with no wind and stunning sunny skies above – which saw 6 anglers landing their first ever GT on the fly.

The weather Gods were on our side this week with windless days and sunny skies. The spring tides had all the guides hopeful for a good week with lots of surf walks planned and completed. This week was a week of many firsts, with some guests catching their first saltwater fish on the fly, first Bonefish or first GT. Although the fish were less abundant this week, some good catches were made, with the bluewater anglers almost out-competing the guys on the flats.

As always we had an abundance of highlights from this week, starting with John who is a first-time flats fisherman getting a Flats Slam (Triggerfish, Bonefish and GT) on his very first day. Although the GTs were tough to find this week a fair amount were caught with Charlie, Emile, Gordie, Jim, Phil and Rich all managing to land their first GT.

Charlie stole the show though with landing four GTs on Wednesday with his guide Alex, the biggest one measuring a whopping 112 cm. Rich also managed to put his name on the board by catching a phenomenal 77 cm Yellow dot Kingfish. Last but not least Ray caught a lovely 58 cm Permit on his very last day sealing off an epic week’s fishing on the flats.

Meanwhile off the flats the bluewater team was busy teasing sailfish. Much to their delight Jake, Jill, Rich, Charlie and Gordie all landed their first Sailfish on fly, with Gordie completing a Bills and Bones Slam on Friday catching a Sailfish and Bonefish in the same day. Chris also manged to add to the bluewater tally catching a lovely Wahoo on fly.

All in all a great week here at Alphonse with great catches from the guests and even greater memories. Well done to all the anglers and guides. Next week is looking like a busy one again with some great weather forecasted and the tides moving towards neaps making it ideal for trigger fishing. Stay tuned for next week’s update.
