Another week has passed on the stunning flats of Alphonse Island, this week saw 12 anglers who all managed some fantastic fish on the fly, including Bonefish, Permit, GT and even some good Wahoo and Sailfish.
Alphonse Island – 22/11/2021
This week ticked all the boxes with some wonderful weather and some stunning fish caught. Initially, the week started off slow on the fishing front but ended off with a bang, lots of GTs were caught and lots of stories about the one that got away.
Starting with off with Thomas, Bart, Steve, Mark and Mark all catching their first GTs, of those firsts were two very notable fish, caught by both Mark’s. Mark B caught one of 101 cm and Mark with the fish of the week stretching a massive 115 cm. Mark kept his fishing streak up after his big GT and finished the week off strong with a Flats Slam, landing a GT, Permit and Bonefish on the last day.
Alexi and David, who are no strangers to St Francois also managed to land two GTs each. On the other side of the spectrum and a slightly less aggressive species, the Milkfish have made their return with the calmer conditions. Chantal after countless battles and lost fish finally landed a Milkfish this week measuring a lovely 78 cm. Adding to their list of firsts Steve, Bart and Sonja all managed to land their first Milkfish.
Going with the smaller species, yet just as remarkable species, Thomas and Chuck both managed to land their first Moustache Triggerfish, while Anthony joined the elite group of anglers who have caught Permit, ticking it off his list. Speaking about Permit, David managed to land and break his personal best permit record, with a great fish measuring 62 cm. There was also some great action on the bluewater side of things with Steven, Elizabeth, Maya, Ed and Fredrique all catching their first Wahoo, while Steven, Elizabeth and Ed all caught their first Sailfish on fly.
