Atlantic Salmon Fishing in the Gaspé
Salmon Fishing Gaspe Canada and our fishing continues to be productive but for the first time this season the water levels are getting a bit low and beginning to warm up.
Perhaps everyone was getting a little spoiled with higher than normal water levels since the beginning of the season. The weather’s been hot and dry with temperatures in the 30C degree range for most of the week. However everyone managed to land a good number of nice salmon and grilse but just had to work a little harder for them. The weatherman is calling for rain and showers for the beginning of the week and perhaps even a thunder storm, lets hope. Customers are still using boats to travel between the pools but another few days of hot weather will have everyone wading.
The Bonaventure is flowing at 25 Cubic meter per second which is normal for the end of July. Fishing on the Bony has been pretty good up until now with good numbers of salmon and plenty of grilse. The Petite Cascapedia is flowing at 13 cubic meters per second, for this time of the season 20 would be the norm. The Petite is low at the moment however with a nice number of salmon in the river and cool water temperatures, everyone is doing very well. The Grand Cascapedia is flowing at 17 cubic meters, normal for the end of July is 30. The Grand has been giving some customers some nice fish but it’s getting low and could really use some rain. Lets hope the weather man is accurate this time.
The hot fly’s for the week have been a mixture of dry’s and small wets. Green and Dark Brown Bombers were responsible for most of the catches. In the wet fly depatment, the John Olin, Green Butt and Silver Rat did the best. The Picasse and Green Spey were the winners on the Petite. The sizes that are working best are number 8’s 10’s and 12’s.
So lets end with the hope that the rains come for as with all salmon fishing we are always at the mercy of the river levels. Having said that all customers this year have been returning home nice and happy.
