The Top Fly Fishing Lodges In Alaska

At Sportquest Holidays, we offer access to Alaska’s breathtaking destinations, which are celebrated for their winding rivers, magnificent lodges, tented fly-out camps, and exceptional mixed-fly fishing.

When you dream of a trip to this incredible part of the world, you may envision floatplanes gliding overhead, grizzly bears roaming the paths, and clear, rushing rivers—this is the essence of an Alaskan holiday. Speak to anyone who has experienced fishing here, and they’ll convey how remarkable it is; for many, it becomes an enticing ritual.

This wild and beautiful state boasts diverse terrain, immersing you in stunning surroundings that ensure an unforgettable fishing adventure. Below, we present some of the finest fishing lodges in Alaska for you to explore:

Goodnews RIver Lodge

Goodnews River Lodge is an angler’s paradise, offering over 490 miles of fishable streams, braids, creeks, and river branches. As the only fully serviced lodge on the entire three-branch system, all five Pacific Salmon species have been allowed to roam free, allowing travelling rods to experience first-class fishing in solitude and amongst the peaceful beauty of the Alaskan wilderness.

Note: In addition to our standard weeks, we also run an exclusive Sportquest-hosted trip to the lodge, and you can read more about that here: Hosted Goodnews River Lodge.

Goodnews River Lodge is a tented lodge situated on the river’s banks, providing easy fishing access. The camp features a large main dining room with a river view, a fully equipped commercial kitchen, and a recreation hall with a lounge area.

The lodge offers seven standard tents/cabins, each built on a platform and equipped with a front porch. A separate building contains six private bathrooms, and a drying tent is available.

ATA LODGE (ALASKA TROPHY ADVENTURES)

ATA Lodge is the perfect wilderness fishing retreat boasting a world-famous run of all five Pacific Salmon species and a host of resident fish, such as the Leopard Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char, and Grayling. It is a freshwater fly fishing paradise and is well-suited to anglers of all abilities, from newcomers to the sport to seasoned travellers who have fished around the globe. Located fifty-five miles from the mouth of the Alagnak River in the Bristol Bay region of Katmai National Park, the lodge comprises one hundred and sixty acres of prime riverfrontage, offering a tonne of water. It’s an isolation that provides a real thrill and perfect solitude.

The Alaska Trophy Adventures Lodge offers two riverfront cabin packages: deluxe or standard cabins. The deluxe cabins were built with two extra windows and a private bath and shower. The standard cabins have two cabins sharing one larger bathroom and shower building with outside access nearby. The guest cabins, including the main lodge, have spectacular views of the Alagnak River. The Dining Lodge is the centrepiece of the camp. It’s where you take your meals, share stories and socialise after a day on the river.

Wooden walkways connect all the private guest cabins and lead down to the naturally sheltered dock, where a fleet of jet boats are ready to access all the best fishing spots within minutes of the lodge.

BRISTOL BAY LODGE

Bristol Bay Lodge is strategically placed in the unspoiled and untouched surroundings of Alaska’s pristine Wood-Tikchik State Park. Only accessible by floatplane, it’s part of an incredibly stunning watershed containing 14 major lakes and connecting river systems. It provides spectacular sport for travelling rods throughout the year, with King Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Sockeye, Chum, and Silver Salmon on the menu. There’s also the chance to catch other species like northern Pike, Dolly Varden, and Grayling.

Forbes magazine has ranked Bristol Bay Lodge the fourth-best fishing lodge in the world. The lodge’s well-appointed facilities offer casual, elegant wilderness living filled with creature comforts and an atmosphere of camaraderie. The main lodge houses a completely equipped professional kitchen, a dining room, a large living room with a bar area, a library and a considerable fly-tying bench. There are eight bedrooms in the main lodge and a fully equipped fly and tackle shop.

Set around the lodge, but private in every regard, are four cedar cabins, often used for small groups or families. Each cabin is different, offering its character, yet all offer scenic views of Lake Aleknagik.

ALASKA WEST FLY FISHING LODGE

Alaska West Fly Fishing Lodge is a centrally located camp with a short boat ride to some excellent fishing for Rainbows, Dolly Varden, Arctic Grayling, and all five bright chrome Pacific Salmon species. Its location couldn’t be any better, only being 5.5 miles from the mouth of the world-famous Kanektok River. This waterway is locally known as the ‘Fish Factory’, which offers anglers a wide variety of fishing opportunities for a large population of species, and it’s hard to believe that such a small river can hold such a large biomass of fish.

Alaska West Fly Fishing Lodge consists of all tented accommodations; however, this does not mean it is basic. The whole camp has a professional feel and everything all fly anglers need from a welcoming lodge. Being based right on the banks of the river gives the entire camp a real fishing appeal.
