Bonaventure & Salmon Lodge Report 11th to 17th July
Even though the weather is hotting up all our customers are still managing to put plenty of fish in the books. Plus as you can see from our customers pictures there has been some cracking Atlantic Salmon caught last week.
Overall we’ve had a good week at camp with decent numbers of fish in the book. The weather warmed up considerably on this week and the last few days have been hot and sunny with temperatures in the high low 30’sand very humid, definatly not the best fishing conditions. We continue to have good fishing but the last few days have been more of a challange due to the sunny and hot days.
“We have had some amazing fish caught this last week, the average size of fish this season is well above previous ones”
John with is first Atlantic salmon, A great way to start John!!!!
Brian travelled all the way hear to catch salmon!
Luc and his wife Sophie with a nice Bonaventure salmon, Congratulations Luc!
The Bonaventure continues to produce well and water temperatures are still pretty cool, especially in the upper sections of the river. We are having a good season on the Petite Cascapedia as well, our guides are seeing plenty of fresh salmon in almost all the pools with new ones coming in on every tide.. The Grand is also doing well but we could use a couple of rainy days to bump the water levels. Considering the weather we had another great week on the Grand. The conditions this past week have given us more of a challenge but we’re still catching them!
The hot fly’s for the week have been a mixture of dry’s and small wets. Green, Blue and Dark Brown Bombers were responsible for most of the catches. In the wet fly department, the John Olin, Green Machine and Stone Ghost came out in front for the week, the Langa Fancy is catching up pretty quickly as one of the best fly’s. The John Olin and Picasse were the winners on the Petite. The sizes that are working best are number 8’s and 10’s .
Camp Bonaventure regular Francis with a fine one on the Bonaventure
Francois know how to get it done on the Grand Cascapedia, nice salmon & facial expression!
Jack lands this one on the Grand Cascapedia, congratulations Jack!
The weather man shows a bit a rain early next week and temperatures will be cooling down . Maybe this hot weather will produce a thunder storm, we are keeping our fingers crossed.
Fishing at both these lodges for Atlantic Salmon is amazing, I have a very very special trip planned for 2017, where we will fish both lodges and all the rivers over a 6 days fishing period.
Check out my hosted week in 2017 Click HERE and I look forward in you joining me on the river bank.
