Bonaventure & Salmon Lodge Report 25th to 31st July

Bonaventure & Salmon Lodge Report 25th to 31st July

Its hard to believe but we’re  half way through the season already, we’re having a good season overall, not a record year but we certainly can’t complaine. Read this weeks report on both Salmon Lodge & Bonaventure and see what you are missing.

FISHING REPORT

Higher than normal water conditions from the beginning of the season have allowed us to keep using our boats, making the guides very happy indeed. Having the option of using boats to travel the river, gets us to more places. Higher water means fish holding throughout our river systems. Our medium water pools are holding plenty of salmon and even a few high water ones as well.

“Water levels on the Bonaventure are excellent and flowing at 36 cubic meters per second, normal would be in the 18 to 20 range for this time the season.”

Puts a nice one back on the Grand Cascapedia, Congratulations

Luc with a nice on from the Grand Cascapedia, Congratulations Luc!

With  cooler weather and regular weekly rain fall, the Bonaventure water temperature are in the 50 to 55 degree range. Fishing on the Bony has been productive since the beginning of June and continues to produce good numbers of fish every day. This week’s high tides brought in a good run on every tide and our lower pools are still producing well on a daily basis.

The Petite Cascapedia is also doing very well with the water flow  slightly above normal  at about 19 Cubic Meters per second. The water temperature is also excellent  in the 50 degree range, just perfect for this time of year. Salmon runs on the  Petite have been great with plenty of fresh run salmon this past week.

Salmon Lodge & Camp Bonaventure Report

First time Atlantic salmon angler Jessica landed this fine salmon under the guidance of guide Jean-Marc Poirier, Congratulations Jessica!

The flies of choice this past week have been a mixed bag, Camp Bonaventure Guides are catching most of our fish on Dry fly’s while Salmon Lodge guides tell me they were more successful on smaller  wets.  Bombers in Green, Brown and Blue are always working, size 2, 4 and 6 have been doing the job. In the wet fly department, the Undertaker, John Olin, Black Ghost and Stone Ghost were responsible for most of the fish. Sizes 6, 8 and even 10.  Hitched tubes are doing very well, especially when a fish are being difficult.
