Where is the lodge?

Cigarral de las Mercedes sits in 5 hectares of land in the middle of the city of Toledo approx 70km from the Spanish capital of Madrid. Cigarral de las Mercedes has the most beautiful views over the city and being surrounded by a big lake, gardens, olive and pine trees and an ancient wall makes it for and sensational setting.

 

Where do they shoot?

The El Despeñadero estate is situated to the south of Madrid in the region of La Mancha, Toledo. It has over 2.000 wild hectares with olive groves, forests and farmland as well as deep ravines from which present incredible birds. Offering a variety of drives gives the guns a great challenge ensuring the best partridge shooting in Spain. The partridge which are presented are impressively fast, courageous and high flying providing you with an unforgettable experience.

 

How long does it take to reach the shooting ground?

It takes approximately 10 minutes from Cigarral de las Mercedes to the estate and the various drives you’ll be shooting.

 

What quarry will I shoot?

 You will be shooting driven Spanish red-legged Partridge during your time at El Despeñadero.

 

What will the bag be?

The bag will be a minimum of 350 birds but the opportunity to shoot more can be arranged on the day should you wish, at an added overage cost of 39 euros per bird per person (inc VAT).

 

How does the day work?

You will enjoy a breakfast at the lodge before being picked up and taken to the estate where your loaders/secretaries will already have your guns and cartridges in the vehicles.

You will be taken to each of the 4 drives by 4×4 where you will have both your loader and secretario with you.

The “Taco” (elevenses) will be served after the first, second and third drives where you will experience some traditional Spanish cuisine including hot and cold meats, fish and tapas washed down with only the best Rioja.

 

Do the guides speak English?

All the guides and lodge staff speak very good English.

 

Who is best suited to this destination?

A keen and well-seasoned game shooter would appreciate this destination due to the opportunity for a selection of challenging birds. However, at the same time, it would be an ideal place for the more intermediate gun to try his hand at some well-presented birds whilst being well looked after on their peg.

 

What skill level is required?

An intermediate competency level is required for this trip and type of shooting. As you will have a loader to take care of loading, the speed and trajectory of the presented game will be somewhat of a challenge on certain drives. So a reasonable amount of skill is required for this type of shooting.

 

How physically demanding is this trip?

The amount of physical exercise is minimal on this trip due to the 4×4’s included to pick you up from the lodge first and last thing at night and to and from the drives. However, whilst on peg action can become quite fast paced.

 

When is the best time to go?

October through until February.

 

How to get there?

Fly from the UK direct to Madrid with a short transfer of 60 minutes to the historic town of Toledo where you’ll be staying at the beautiful Cigarral de las Mercedes lodge.

 

What is the accommodation like?

Cigarral de las Mercedes is one of the most exclusive estates in the middle of Toledo. A big lodge set in 5 hectares of beautiful gardens and historic architecture overlooking the city. With a total of 21 rooms, 15 classic doubles, 2 deluxe and a jacuzzi and 4 private villas each with its own private gardens and Jacuzzis.

 

What is the food like?

The food consists of typically Spanish cuisine compromising of hot and cold meats, omelettes, fish and salads. A large amount of tapas will be on offer to tantalise your taste buds and a huge selection of Rioja wines are available throughout your stay.

 

Does the lodge provide hunting/shooting equipment?

 The lodge provides most equipment should you need it including hearing and eye protection along with your guns and ammunition.

 

Is internet and phone signal available?

Cigarral de las Mercedes provides both Wifi/Internet and telephones at no extra cost.

 

Are there other activities available?
