We wrapped up our first season at Farquhar Atoll in March of this year. What a privilege it has been to share this unique fishery with guests from all over the world! The fishing experience riveted us and our guests from start to finish and was not only exciting, but also served to showcase the incredible diversity of species around the atoll.
There is such a variety on offer: from wading and sight fishing on the flats, to bluewater fishing the off-shore reef complexes. You can be stalking tailing Bonefish one moment before fishing for GT’s over your lunch break and ending off the day by luring in some behemoth-sized Bumpies – it really is enough to have anyone catch fish fever!
Our personal highlight over the past season was experiencing the jaw-dropping Goulette Island, part of Farquhar Atoll and the scene of BBC’s Blue Planet II. Fishing the many large GT’s patrolling its shoreline or targeting the Bumpies on its turtlegrass flats is truly as close to heaven as we can come on this earth!
Catch Highlights
The past season at Farquhar reconfirmed that it truly is one of the most unique, unexplored, and unchartered atolls in the Outer Islands of the Seychelles.
One of only 2 atolls where one can target the strangely beautiful Bumphead Parrotfish, Farquhar Atoll also showcased its diversity with the number of GT’s reeled in, right along the likes of Indo-Pacific Permit, Moustache Triggerfish, Yellowmargin Triggerfish, Bonefish, Bluefin Trevally, Barracuda and Milkfish, to name a few.
Here are just a few of the achievements that were truly remarkable this season:
- A total of 15 Bumphead Parrotfish were landed for the season
- Joern caught the first Bumpy of the season and a behemoth of a GT stretching the tape to 134 cm
- Andrew landed a permit measuring 84 cm. It is the largest caught on Farquhar to date!
- Mike landed a bus of a Moustache Triggerfish at 56 cm
- Mark showed off a Bumpy of a whopping 103 cm
- The most Giant Trevally caught in a week was 37
