Glacier King Salmon Report Week Three
As another week comes to an end it gives us time to reflect just how amazing this destination and fishing has been so far in the short 3 weeks of the season. On week three we welcomed a group of dedicated and experienced anglers. These customers have travelled quite extensively so experience was definitely on the table for the week. Also this week the group were all dedicated fly anglers so no spinning rods this week?
The first thing that became apparent early in the week that due to the increase of numbers of fish entering the river system the holding pools could not hold any more fish, therefore fish started to fill the whole river and especially the runs between the holding pools. The was great as it gave us more variety of water to fish and also helped as the more fish in the river the Kings were a little bit more agitated making them happier to bite flies.
As the fish moved both upstream and back down stream in the shallower water between the holding pools the customers could see quite clearly the size of the Kings in the river. We can honestly say everyone who has been out with us this year has gasped at the sight of these fish cruising the river. It’s a real mixture of wanting to catch one and…….. Mmmmm I am not sure I want to hook that how the hell would I land such a fish.
Well as in the previous weeks that was half the story as this week the fish had the upper hand, even though we had some real experienced anglers who have salmon fished all over the world, they still lost 30 fish during the week. Now consider this the fish are averaging over 38LB so 30 fish lost over 38LB is amazing sport in its self. All lost fish are only counted if hooked and then lost, we do not count missed fish bites.
However coming on one of these adventures with us is also about landing fish so I am happy to report that between the group they did also manage to land 21 Kings. The best fish also toped 74LB a truly magnificent fish which took the lucky angler and guide over 600 meters down stream. The average fish size for week three was just over 45LB.
This place just continues to excite us and we are sure that you will be looking forward to the up and coming reports. Remember if you want the most insane King Salmon fishing in the world, this is the best destination you will ever find.
Apart from the normal season weeks Sportquest Holidays also hosted dedicated weeks. In 2018 there are 2 dedicated weeks but ONLY 2 places left remaining.
In 2019 Sportquest has 3 dedicated weeks but again there is only a total of 4 rods available.
As we are taking heavy bookings for both 2018 and 2019, and as there is only a maximum of 6 rods each week and ONLY 6 weeks in a season you can see why it is getting so heavily booked, so please do not delay in getting in contact with us today.
