Recently returned from Havøysund and it sure didn’t disappoint. Thanks to sportquest once again for the usual spot on arrangements.
Of the 6 planned days, two were cancelled because of high winds. However one of the cancelled days ended up with a brief plaice trip in a sheltered area for a few hours as the wind eased and several plaice were caught. The best on our boat about 3 lb and several around 2lb,great fun on a light rod using levered prawn.I tried a small sidewinder 25 gram Shad on a flowing trace which often works for me but surprisingly the guide Douglas said I couldn’t use it as would attract haddock to the boat ??? I was gobsmacked and stopped fishing for an hour not amused.I would have loved a specimen haddock.
On a more positive not on another day with guide Johan, I used the same small Shad and had a 16lb halibut on my spinning rod.Great fun. Then later in the same day I managed my target fish a 165 cm halibut which when converted using the scale would have came it at around 130lb. About 40 minutes of back breaking enjoyment. I ended the week week with a couple more on the last day, another decent one at 130cms and another 82 cms on the small sidewinder Shad.
I have returned home after a memorable holiday having met some new fishing friends. Unfortunately I have caught the dreaded halibut fever and the only cure is to catch more!!
Looking forward to my next trip.
Just to clarify the levered prawn was meant to read legered prawn.Apologies.
