Pike Fishing Wilderness Lakes | Sweden | Questions & Answers

Pike Fishing Wilderness Lakes | Sweden | Questions & Answers

Wilderness Lakes is the pinnacle of wild Swedish Pike fishing, set in the back country of Lapland this vast area of water is a Pike anglers dream come true. The camp is the perfect blend of modern equipment meeting ancient lakes and rivers making the Pike fishing out of this world, Swedish Pike fishing is obviously renowned as some of the best in Europe but as far as numbers of big fish on topwater tactics go this camp must be in a league of its own. The camp staff run the place in an organised but relaxed fashion and are always happy to help with any fishing or camp related questions. The boats that are used on the lake are well equipped with running motors and front mounted trolling motors and a weeks fishing at this camp will see anglers never needing to fish the same bays twice.

Where is the Lodge?

You will find the lodge in Swedish Lapland half way between the Baltic sea and the Norwegian Border, the sheer volume of lakes and rivers in this area is even extreme by Swedens standards.

Where do they fish?

The fishing on Wilderness Lakes takes place pretty much all over, but as is the norm with Swedish Pike fishing the best sport is found in the shallows where explosive takes will take your breath away.

How long does it take to reach the fishing grounds?

The boats are only a stones throw away from the lodge so you can be fishing with in 10 minutes, but if you want to venture to the other end of the lake system it will take approx 45 minutes.

What fish will I catch?

Big angry Northern Pike are the main focus of a trip to Wilderness lakes, but good quality Brown Trout, Perch and Grayling can also be caught.

How many fish will I catch?

On an average week, a good angler should be able to catch plenty of fish on a daily basis but obviously bad weather conditions can make this number change from time to time. Swedish Pike fishing is generally so consistent that good numbers of fish are expected.

How do they fish?

For fly fishing generally, 9/10# rods are used with either floating or intermediate lines, at the business end large streamer patterns or surface flies can really help make each and every take one to remember. When lure fishing shads can be very effective as well as spinnerbaits or large poppers.

Do the guides speak English?

All the guides speak English

Who is best suited to this destination?

Anyone who wants to experience a truly wild environment with Swedish Pike fishing that is in a league of its own.

What skill level is required?

As long as you can cast a half decent line of say 10 yards with either fly or lure you will put yourself in with a good chance of catching fish, we would however always advise on getting some casting lessons before leaving for any of our trips to put yourself in with the best possible chance to maximise your trip.

How physically demanding is this trip?

Generally the walking and wading is over short distances and of an easier nature, but if you want to push yourself then some parts of the lakes and rivers can be more challenging

When to go?

Any time between June and September is good, as long as the weather has been warm! like with all Swedish Pike fishing you need the water temperature to be warm to activate the fish into chasing a fly or lure.

How to get there?

A flight from the UK to Stockholm (Arlanda) that takes approx 2hr 30min and then a flight from Arlanda to Lulea that is approx 1hr 15mins

What is the accommodation like?

The accommodation is basic but comfortable, the Camp is well organised and you will struggle to find more helpful guides/camp staff than these guys anywhere.

 What is the food like?

Again the food is basic but very nice and is just what the doctor ordered after a long day on the water. The dishes are often based on Italian dishes due to the camp staffs origins.

Does the lodge provide fishing tackle?

Wilderness Lakes does not provide tackle or waders so these need to be taken by guests wishing to visit. Please inform us before travel if you wish to use the lodge rods & reels.

Is Internet and phone signal available?

Although the lodge does have Internet, phone signal may or may not work due to the location of the lodges.

Are there other activities available?

Walking and nature watching would be the only other activities that could be catered for whilst at the lodge
