Fishing Report Norway apologies we are a little behind with the Fishing Report Norway! We struggled with the WiFi and didn’t get sorted till late! But it’s all sorted now so here goes… Here’s day two, day’s 3 and 4 will follow today, then we should be back up and running like normal!
After overnighting in Oslo, we awoke around 6.00 and got stuck straight into the Norwegian style fried breakfast, washed down with a few cups of strong coffee we were in the taxi and on the way to the airport by 7.00. We checked in and after a couple of hours, we were in the air and on our second flight of the trip, to the airport in Alta. Once in Alta we were gathered all our rod tubes, cool boxes and cases and were on the specially marked ‘fishing’ bus, with a four hour coach journey ahead, an hour on the ferry and another 45 minute bus journey we were still quite away off the ‘island of the big fish’ Soroya, but spirits were high and everyone was excited as to what lay ahead!
We had a couple of hours in Alta, which allowed us to have a bite to eat (a cracking steak and cheesemelt!) and do a little bit of shopping! Then once again… back on the bus and more traveling, the four hour journey to the ferry in Hasvik passed quickly though, as the winding roads and stunning scenery kept the mind occupied!
The ferry journey from Hasvik was pretty smooth, and after an hour… FINALLY we were on the Island of Soroya! All that was left was the journey to the lodge, now I’m not a big fan of heights so the 45minute journey seemed a little longer than that! We arrived at the camp at around 7.30, and were greeted with a couple of old faces, Ulfe and Ralph who were met last year while on our research trip. They invited us all down to the bar and we enjoyed a beautiful, complimentary fish soup and warm bread, while we all talked fishing. Once dinner was over and done with we were then shown round the onsite tackle shop, where we saw some rather interesting items, as you’ll see by the pictures! It was then back to the lodge, to unpack, get washed and sort the tackle, as after 2 days traveling tomorrow is going to be our first days fishing!
