It is not long now before our full group departs for our annual trip to the famous Kalum Lodge fishing report. This year we have a couple of returning guests looking to settle some scores with big lost fish last year. Also this year our very own Mike Smith a fully qualified GAIA casting instructor will be hosting this trip as the first of many more to come. I have had the pleasure in knowing Mike now for a few years and also have used his teaching to teach me new fly fishing methods. He is a one in a million as he loves nothing more than teaching, his patience is amazing. He is such a master at teaching and not one of those instructors that keeps grabbing the rod off you to show you again and again. His method is to stand beside you and guide you letting you feel the rod and line load up the rod.
The fishing so far at our lodge has been excellent with all the rivers full of fish. Last week some of our customers were out chasing large Cum Salmon on the fly. Often said to be the most aggressive and hard fighting of the salmon species, hooking a Chum can give you a good work out!. One lucky lady Sadie was also top rod one day managing to land 10 large Chum all in one day, she also hooked several others that unfortunately came adrift, including a huge King salmon that decided to head off down river taking all her fly line with it.
Now the rivers are coming in to peak time for the grand slam of Salmon species so awaiting our group trip are Pinks, Sockeye, Chum, Kings and Steelhead.
Below are a few pictures of the fish and river & our Kalum Lodge fishing report. We look forward to the full fishing report when Mike and the Customers all return.
