End of Season Report Villa Maria In Argentina and with so many years fishing this beautiful river and never had I hooked such a huge Sea Run Trout. This season not only have we caught the record fish of Villa Maria Lodge, a 33,5 lbs monster silver chrome Sea Trout, but we also broke many other records.
A truly memorable season has just finished in Villa Maria Lodge! Fall has arrived and it’s time to rest the river and leave the fish to their spawning chores in peace.
We started the season with perfect conditions for fishing, the river was clear and good water level, the river remained so throughout the month of January. The last week of January we had rain and a flooded river, which was unfishable for a couple of days. Then the river began to drop and remained low and clear during February and March. The end of the season was sometimes difficult; we had lots of changeable weather.
Speaking of fishing techniques, we fished mostly the traditional swing of the fly, moving the fly a little bit during the drift. But i have to say that nymphing with strike indicator was a tremendously successful technique. We fished most of the time with sinking lines with different sinking rates depending the level of the water. We had opportunities to fish with floating lines and dry flies too! Regarding flies, if i have to mention the “top five” i would say: green machine, leeches, rubber legs, sunray shadows and prince nymph.
Let´s talk about numbers and statistics:
– Total fish for the season (15 weeks): 935 seatrout.
– Average fish per angler per day: 2,2
