Salmon Lodge River & Fishing Report – 5th to 11th July 2021

Another spectacular week comes to an end over at the Salmon lodge, This week saw a multitude of guests, which all left with big smiles on their faces and some big Salmon under their belts!

5th to 11th July 2021

Another week in and boy what a week it’s been!

We had the pleasure of hosting some spectacular trips and spending precious time with our wonderful guests. This past week, the weather conditions were in our favour and the salmon are giving us a lot of appreciated attention! Our days were a great combination of rainy, cloudy and sunny. Our temperatures remained mid 20’s throughout the day and dropped to a comfortable 15 degrees or so for the evenings.

All three rivers are flowing at healthy levels for this time of the season and I believe everyone is truly grateful. The Beautiful Gin-Clear Bonaventure River is currently at 19.95 cubic meters per second. The Magnificent Grand Cascapedia is flowing at 28.18 cubic meters per second and the Petite Cascapedia Gem is at 20.53 cubic meters per second. All three rivers had subtle fluctuations throughout the week with the rain received.

The amount of rain received did not coincide with the amounts announced by the weatherman but in the end, that may have been for the best. Our rivers remained fishable and clear all week and the bump in water energized the salmon.

The Salmon’s fly of choice this week was a fair mix between wet and dry flies. Anything with a bit of green, black and yellow to it have been catching their eye. I would name a couple of favourites but our guides have gotten creative this year and began using some homemade creations. As for dry flies, the light blue, green and light brown patterns are working very well.

We remain hopeful, like most of you, that a leniency on travel bans will begin to take place as we progress through the summer. Unfortunately, we remain in the dark with the rest of the world until official announcements are made. We will keep all fingers and toes crossed for now in hopes of having the pleasure of welcoming you back this season.

Until next week, here’s to health, happiness and tight lines.
