Fly Fishing Methods for Salmon
Salmon are primarily targeted on the fly. The water conditions will dictate the tactics you will use. Spey casting and both wet and dry flies work exceptionally well when fishing for Salmon. The most commonly used technique for catching Salmon is called “swing”.
Ironically, this exquisite style of fishing is exceptionally dynamic and stimulating – just like the identically named music genre. When fishing this style, the fly is classically placed downstream in a 45-degree angle — allowing your lure to temptingly cross the current. A technique that quite a few might know from wet fly fishing.
By moving downstream after each cast, this turns into a very systematic and super effective way of fishing. The speed of the fly is of the highest importance when fishing the swing. Luckily, it can be influenced in many different ways.
Lure fishing is also a perfect method for targeting Salmon. With many fish happy to take artificial lures. If bait fishing is something that you wish to try then worms are by far the best bait. Either being float fished or ledgered on the bottom.
