Ascension Bay has for many years been a mecca for saltwater fly fisherman and over this period Casa Blanca fly fishing lodge has established itself as one of Mexico’s premier saltwater fly fishing destination. The lodge has endless expanses of turquoise flats that make a perfect environment for Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon.
You will be fishing the shallow flats surrounding Islas Tres Marias and Cayo Culebra, waters so beautiful that the surroundings defy description. You will be wade fishing in ankle-deep, crystal clear water that covers a firm, white sand base. You will have endless opportunities to cast to tailing Bonefish and Permit. While fishing the mangroves that surround the island’s shorelines, you will cast to waiting for Snook and cruising Bonefish and Tarpon.
We have handpicked Casa Blanca for one reason, which is the area surrounding Casa Blanca is wild, virtually uninhabited and extraordinarily beautiful. There are miles of shallow bays, secluded mangrove-rimmed lagoons, white-sand beaches, and dense coastal jungle. Bonefishing is conducted amongst the mangroves and sand flats, although not a destination to catch big Bonefish, the fish at Casa Blanca tend to be bigger than average for Yucatán Peninsula due to its closeness to the ocean.
The Tarpon fishing is mainly for residential Tarpon, therefore, do not get much above 60lb, also even though there are plenty of Tarpon to cast to when trying to complete a grand slam, we would not want to consider this a primarily Tarpon destination.
