Crocodile Bay is situated on 44 acres of manicured tropical gardens and contains 28 air-conditioned rooms in Puerto Jimenez on Costa Rica’s South Pacific Coast. The charming and rustic town of Puerto Jimenez is only a short 10-minute walk. Here you will find some lovely art and craft shops, supermarkets and some of the most excellent fish restaurants around. The resort, over the years, has built an outstanding reputation for its friendly staff and excellent service.
However, the main reason so many people head to this resort is for fishing. Especially for the run of Sailfish. Each year multiple Sailfish catches per day are very common. The abundance of fish is due to the upwelling caused by offshore winds to the north and south of the Osa Peninsula. These winds drive baitfish into the area and leave a flat calm ocean. Perfect for a day afloat searching for your chosen species. Make sure to visit our YouTube channel for our full playlist of Big Game fishing videos. Crocodile Bay Fishing
The fishing at Crocodile Bay is very varied. This destination appeals to many different fishing types from fly fishermen to lure anglers. Offshore fishing offers many different options too. To name a few, trolling big Marlin lures and rigged baits for the Billfish. While fishing offshore, you will come across vast shoals of Tuna and Dorado. These species can be targeted either with lures, by fly fishing or by standard trolling.
The inshore fishing is also extremely varied. You will have opportunities to throw poppers at feeding Roosters. Vertical jig for big Amber Jacks and Cubera Snappers. Or fly fish for surface feeding species. The Billfish caught at Crocodile Bay is mainly Blue Marlin averaging around 300lb. The Sailfish average around 70lb with some going over the 100lb bracket. The Tuna you’ll target will mostly be the Yellowfin Tuna. Crocodile Bay Yellowfin Tuna average between 20–50lb. However, the odd 100lb does grace the boats each week. Roosterfish generally average 25lb. Again, there is always that chance of a monster fish approaching the 100lb bracket.
The fishing vessels at Crocodile Bay range in size. Starting at the 24ft center console Boston Whalers. Up to the luxury 33ft and 35ft tower boats. A very high standard is kept on all our Costa Rica fishing boats. Similarly, all boats come equipped with the most modern fish finding equipment and VHF radios. Along with all being loaded with high-quality fishing tackle, free for you to use.
On the larger boats, you will get both a captain and a deckhand. This is to ensure you have the best experience possible. While on the Boston Whalers you will be accompanied by a captain. The Boston Whalers will require you to be a little more hands-on. You will set the rods out and strike fish yourself. Sometimes you will help keep the boat moving while your captain sorts the rods out. Or because they’re helping land the fish of a lifetime.
Because this is an Eco and Spa resort, there are many activities. Some of these activities include the zip line canopy tour, jungle night walks and bird watching. Additional excursions include crocodile and cayman tours and kayaking. As you can see, a holiday to Crocodile Bay in Costa Rica isn’t just a standard fishing trip, there is so much more on offer.
