Fly-fishing is possible both from skiffs and by wading. An extensive shallow underwater shelf along the Northern coastline of Cayo Largo provides a huge expansive of fishable flats ideal for all saltwater flats species. One thing for sure is you will not go short on fishing opportunities for the 3 main species, Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon.

The Sol Cayo Largo hotel is located on the beautiful Cayo Largo, off the southern coast of Cuba. This secluded resort is set in an area of stunning natural beauty with magnificent beaches, coconut groves and beautiful coral reefs – perfect for a family getaway. The Resort is only 5 minutes from the International Airport. It offers a total of 296 comfortable rooms with a terrace or balcony overlooking the ocean, including 8 Junior Suites and 52 deluxe rooms.

The 236 double rooms with Terrace/Balcony, Bathroom with hair-dryer, Air-conditioning, Ceiling fan, Satellite TV, Direct dial telephone, Mini-bar, Umbrella and Magnetic key card Safe.

The 52 Superior double rooms with canopied beds, hammock on the balcony, ocean-view, coffee maker, mini-CD alarm-clock, iron and ironing board.

The 8 Junior Suites with a lounge, canopied beds, hammock on the balcony, ocean-view, pillow menu and satin bedding, welcome gift, etc.

The below itinerary is only a suggested one, as there are indirect flights departing from the UK every day. We also have direct flights departing the UK twice a week with Virgin, which requires additional nights in Havana both at the beginning and end of the standard itinerary. Therefore should you wish to extend your stay with more time in Cuba or to use the Virgin direct flights, the itinerary below can be tailored to suit. Please note: the fishing is sold in set weeks with set start and finish days, therefore we can not make shorter fishing trips.

Although the fishing is sold in set weeks we have flights available every day from the UK, we can therefore tailor the itinerary so you and your family can have both extra days in Havana and also additional free day to spend with the family in Cayo Largo. Day 1: (Thursday)

Depart UK (alternative routes available)
Arrive in Havana.

On arrival, our representative will be waiting to greet you. They will then transfer you to your hotel. (Note: the transfer is not included and payable locally).

The rest of the evening is yours to either relax or explore.

Day 2: (Friday)

At 5.00am you will meet in the hotel reception where you will be transferred for your domestic flight to Cayo Largo.

Depart Havana
Arrive in Cayo Largo.

On arrival transfer from the airport to the Villa Marinera Hotel.

The afternoon is yours to relax and enjoy the hotel extensive facilities or the white sandy beach.

Day 3: (Saturday) Fishing Day

You will depart at around 8.00 am with guides for your full days fishing.

Each day fishing is based on 2 anglers per guide and skiff.

Fishing is normally done either from the skiff or wading the miles of great Bonefish flats.

Each morning you will discuss with your guide which species you would like to target.

Each day you will be provided with a packed lunch to take out fishing.

At lunchtime, you will transfer back for your return flight back to Havana.

Arrive in Havana.

On arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel.

Subject to your flight time, you will arrange an airport transfer with the hotel reception back to Havana airport.

Baggage Allowance

Your actual allowance is based on both which airline you are flying with and also what class of seat you are travelling in. Normally in economy it is 1 checked bag, Premium Economy / Business 2 checked bags, First 3 checked bags. In addition to your checked bags you are also allowed 1 cabin bag and either 1-laptop bag or ladies handbag. The actual size and weight limit for bags is dependent on the airline. We therefore recommend that once your flights are booked you check on the airlines website for the up to date allowances.

If your itinerary includes private light aircraft or helicopter flights we will advise you on your baggage and weight allowance.

We travelled as 2 couples with us men fishing while the ladies relaxed. Cayo Largo was the perfect mixture for everyone.

The fly fishing for Bones & Permit was full on and are happy to report that both Kevin and myself managed to catch several permit.

We have only been back a couple of weeks, (Sorry for the late feedback) but we are all still missing Cayo Largo. We are talking to our friends and it looks like there will be more couples returning next year.

We returned home yesterday and what a nice welcome home from Sportquest.

You made my family feel special from the beginning. I can not rate your company high enough. Peter you should be very proud as your company certainly stands heads above the competition, and I should know as I have used them before but from now on never again.

My family and I loved the hotel so not sure what the other comment was all about, yes it is a commercial resort but that is just what we wanted, somewhere my family can enjoy what they wanted while my son and I had 6 days fishing.

The staff, guides and fishing was first class, if you are thinking of a saltwater fly fishing holiday with your family Cayo largo is a perfect destination. It is not the cheapest but I believe you always get what you pay for.

Cuba got hit by a tropical storm which can happen in low season and this unfortunately is nothing we can control. The low season is priced at a cheaper rate for this exact reason as these things can happen at this time of year. In relation to the resort accommodation, let me apologize if we got your requirements wrong. We thought that you wanted good quality accommodation, which in Cuba is only available in these large hotel complexes. As Cuba is such a poor country there isn't available small private run cosy hotels that have any good fishing close by. Regards Peter

My wife and I both had some red hot tarpon fishing. We did manage to locate fish both rolling in the channels and on the large flats. Nothing can describe watching large Tarpon rise of the bottom and engulf your fly. Thats another one of my bucket list but still plenty more to achieve.
