Tour Code PAN010

Panama Saltwater Paradise

Every sport angler has heard of stories of how world-class the fishery is in Panama, and it’s no wonder when Panama sport fishing lodge is the home to so many IGFA records of all manner of species. Our Panama big game fishing resort is right in the thick of it. The Gulf of Chiriquí is a real treasure of Panama. With the likes of world-renowned areas such as Hannibal Bank and Isla Montuosa being the fishing grounds, it is no wonder why so many Sport anglers travel to this magical area to target the many different inshore and offshore species. Panama sport fishing lodge has a huge advantage in that both the inshore and offshore are as equally as good as each other. Locations rarely offer world-class fishing in both off and inshore, but Panama does, and this is why it has been able to build such a hefty reputation over the years.

This destination is perfect for a wide variety of anglers, from beginners to the most expert of anglers. Your skipper will help you with every fishing style, and if you have never lured fished for complex fighting species before, they will give you some lessons. Fly fishing is also an excellent method, and again our skippers will be on hand to help you with everything.

Where is Panama Sportfishing Lodge

The Gulf of Chiriquí is located along Panama’s Pacific Coast and stretches towards Costa Rica’s border on the west, and to the east, you will find the Azuero Peninsula. This magical and stunning region has one of the most extensive coral reefs in the Pacific Ocean and is the largest island in Panama. It has miles upon miles of unspoilt white sandy beaches, remote islands and two beautiful marine parks, and it’s not just the sport fishing that attracts people. It also has first-class surfing and a considerable amount of diving opportunities. The Gulf of Chiriquí is relatively remote and largely unspoilt; it certainly is less developed than many other parts of Panama. Many conservationists have classed it as one of the most ecologically significant areas in Central America.

best place to Fishing in Panama

From the Panama sport fishing lodge, you will have perfect access to some of the most famous fishing areas known in Panama, such as Hannibal Bank, Isla Montuosa, Isla Ladrones, to mention a few. The fishing in the Gulf is so excellent that you will be navigating above submerged islands and pinnacles that reach from 50ft to thousands of feet. The unique terrain and the currents push nutrients and oxygen to the sea’s surface more than usual. In turn, the baitfish congregate in huge numbers and make for exceptional sport fishing opportunities.

The Panama sport fishing lodge is one of the closest lodges to all the hot spots, so with the excellent fleet of boats at your disposal, you can reach Panama’s sport fishing grounds in a comfortable and timely manner. Doing this will give you more fishing time to hook up to that dream catch of your choice.

Hannibal Bank: One of the most well recognised and heard of Panama sport fishing lodge areas is located just 48 nautical miles from the lodge and is one of the world’s unique fishing grounds. The bank runs for five miles long and is a staggering three miles wide. The banks are characterised by deep water and benefit from the Humboldt Current that brings along an abundance of plankton to the surface, in turn, provides a prolific food chain for trophy-sized Yellowfin Tuna. It’s not just the Tuna that use this bank as their food larder; many Black and Blue Marlin caught in this area, and with it being a 70-minute boat ride from the marina, it certainly has to be an area you must visit at least once.

Isla Montuosa: Another famous fishing area off Panama’s coast is Isla Montuosa. It can be located just 40 nautical miles from the lodge and is a very productive area to fish. Fish such as Sailfish, Black Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna and huge Snappers caught here. The grounds consist of undersea pinnacles creating the ideal popper fishing for Marlin, Yellowfins, Mullet Snapper and Broom-tail Grouper.

Isla Ladrones: This island’s meaning is “Thieves Island” and is a short 17 nautical mile trip from the marina. The grounds are fascinating here and provide perfect fishing areas for Roosterfish, Cubera Snappers, and many exotic types of Tuna and Jacks. This area will suit all kinds of lure fishing, from popper fishing, stick bait fishing, shallow trolled lures, and bait fishing.

Isla Secas: This stunning archipelago is the perfect place for some live bait fishing due to the sheer amount of baitfish found in this area. It is a short 15 nautical steam from the marina. The waters around here are home to some pretty unique species such as the white-tip shark, Rays, Roosters, Amberjacks, Wahoo, Barracuda and lots of Rainbow runners, a total dream area for those who like to drift live baits behind the boats.

Isla Parida: This one is the closest to the marina and is only four nautical miles from the lodge. This location fringed in luscious mangroves where you will enjoy sights of Sea Turtles and Dolphins swimming freely. These prosperous fishing grounds offer the lure anglers great chances for Amberjacks, Cero Mackerel, Wahoo, Roosters, Barracuda and Rainbow Runners.

Charter Boats In Panama

At the Panama sport fishing lodge, there is a boat for everyone and everyone’s budget and fishing style. The fleet consists of 32ft Blackfins with fighting chairs and a good amount of shade. These boats aimed towards people who like a little bit more luxury when out fishing. They come complete with Lee outriggers, 8 Tuna tubes, live-bait tanks, a fighting chair and a popper fishing station.

They all come complete with trolling rods and reels that kept to the highest standard. These boats are ideal for going further offshore to places like Hannibal Bank and Isla Montuosa.

With-in the fleet of luxury boats at Panama sport fishing lodge, you have access to boats used for inshore fishing, closer areas such as Isla Ladrones, Isla Secas and Isla Parida. The stylish Caribre Pro 26ft centre console boats are perfect for a day’s popper and lure fishing, with them being able to sneak up close and personal to areas the bigger boats can not reach. They all come equipped with GPS, Sounder, Fish Finder, VHF radio and live-bait tanks. These boats do not have a toilet.

The above is the classic boats we use, but many other options will suit anybody’s style and budget. Please enquire if you would like us to offer an alternative boat.

Each boat is skippered by a range of guides and captains who are all regionally famous and are true Sportfishing legends; when you step foot on any of these boats, you know you will be in for a fantastic fishing trip. The Captains have so many years under their belts of fishing these waters, whether that’s on a commercial basis or a sport fishing basis, rest assured you will be in the best of hands, and all the Captains speak excellent English.

Clayton

The lodge was beautiful and the fishing was explosive and like nothing I'd ever experienced before. It was quite tiring some days, casting the heavy lures and doing battle with some of the meanest fighting fish in the ocean, however, I wouldn't change a thing. A truly brilliant week away.

Colin

It may have taken a couple of days of travelling to get there, but it was worth every minute. The fishing was simply incredible, fishing with speed jigs and poppers you generally didn't know what would smash your lure next... all you knew is that whatever did would charge off at a hundred miles an hour. The resort was stunning and a lovely place to retire to each evening.
