Popper & Jig Fishing | North Nosy Be | Madagascar

Overview

Tour code: MAG001

Looking for your next extreme fishing adventure? We are extremely pleased to be able to offer the very best popper and jig fishing Madagascar has to offer. Utilising our live-aboard Catamaran and top of the range sports boats, you will be fishing a hugely diverse range of unspoilt and un-fished areas around the stunning Island of Nosy Be, located just off Madagascar. We are very excited to be able to bring exclusively to all UK anglers this great new adventure where we will see people fishing the waters that up until a couple of years ago, saw absolutely no pressure from any type of fishing. Additionally, there is no reason for you to worry about purchasing expensive rods and reels as we can hire you the complete package along with lures, poppers and jigs. We have everything available to make your fishing adventure the best it can be.

Location

The fishing will be conducted from the north-western coast of Madagascar, from the legendary Cap Saint-Sébastien to the fiery Cap d’Ambre (the extreme north of Madagascar) to the surprising and unknown area of Banc Intermediaire or the famous Courrier Bay. All of these are preserved sport fishing sites and are exceptional for their breathtakingly wild beauty and incredibly rich sport fishing opportunities. These areas are a fabulous playground, on a coastline of over 120km and a continental shelf over 15km wide. You will have the possibilities to fish in several different areas during your stay, which you will discuss with our fishing guides once onboard the Catamaran.

Fishing

Throughout our season the species on offer are huge. One day you could be battling with super hard fighting GT’s and the next watching Sailfish chase down lures. We will endeavour to tick as many species off your bucket list as possible, just make it clear at the start of your trip what your groups targets are and our guides will try everything to make your fishing wishes come true. The new record for GT in Madagascar (a 64kg or 140LB monster) was caught in March 2017 in this awesome area with our partner Nirvana Fishing. The boats you will be fishing from follow the Catamaran out to the fishing grounds. They are very functional, comfortable, equipped with unparalleled safety equipment and are top quality boats. They accommodate up to 4 fishermen and they are able to navigate with ease by the seas.

Guides

You will be fully guided on this holiday by local guides who are very knowledgable in the local waters. These guides will be on hand to help you at every step of the way on your fishing holiday giving you the best experience possible.

If you have any questions on any of the Madagascar trips we offer contact us in the office, our experienced team will be happy to help you with any queries you have.

You can also view our other big game fishing destinations.

We strongly believe that the success of your fishing trip will come down to comfortable sleeping arrangements, excellent food and places to relax in the evening meaning you can completely concentrate on the fishing.

The food that is served on board is delicious, varied and original and is prepared by our talented chefs. The food is produced and prepared with local fresh produce and mostly organically grown (fruits, vegetables, meat and eggs). The below itinerary is only a suggested one as we have daily flights departing from the UK, therefore should you wish to extend your stay with either more fishing days or free days, the itinerary below can be tailored to suit.

Day 1:

Depart UK (alternative routes available).

Day 2:

Arrive Addis Ababa

Depart Addis Ababa
Arrive Nosy Be.

Once you have arrived and collected your bags, a Sportquest Holidays representative will be waiting to meet you. You will then be transferred by private taxi (approx. 45minutes) to the marina where you will board our speed boat to be taken out to the Catamaran (approx 2.45 hours). Before you board the speed boat you will be treated to lunch with our guides and then when you are ready, you and the crew will make your way via our speed boat out to meet the Catamaran.

Once you have arrived at the Catamaran and had a chance to unpack you will be invited on deck to have your first fishing meeting.

Overnight accommodation: Catamaran (Single rooms) F/B

Day 3: Fishing Day

Over the next 5 days, after breakfast you will depart with your boat and crew to the various areas to fish different methods or target your chosen species.

Throwing poppers and jigging can be fairly extreme at times so if you would like a rest from this style of fishing then you can simply troll some lures for fish such as Sailfish and Tuna.

You will then return back to the Catamaran for some relaxation and a good meal.

Overnight accommodation: Catamaran (Single rooms) F/B

Days 4 & 5: Fishing Days

The fishing is conducted from our 10.5 metres/ 34.5ft purpose-built boat perfect for a days popper or jig fishing. Our guides will help you as much as you need.

We can also arrange for your group to have some lessons on popper and jig fishing. This will need to be arranged before you depart.

Overnight accommodation: Catamaran (Single rooms) F/B

Day 6: Fishing Days

There are so many different reefs, drop-offs and flats to fish around the north of Nosy be. We will try and cover as many different marks as possible during your week (weather dependent) so you will get many different chances at feeding fish.

Another very productive method is vertical jigging and this will see you hooking some pretty hard fighting fish such as Dog toothed Tuna and a huge variety of the grouper family.

Overnight accommodation: Catamaran (Single rooms) F/B

Day 7: Fishing Days

Each day you can choose to fish different styles, simply make it clear to your guide and he will take you to the best areas for your chosen style of fishing. We can organise you a days popper fishing, jig fishing or trolling it is entirely up to you, or why not take a fly rod and chance your arm at catching one of these beasts on a fly rod.

On your last days fishing you will start earlier around 06:00 and you will fish until its time to depart back towards Nosy Be (The departure will depend on the distance needed to travel back to Nosy Be)
Once the boat has made its way back to Nosy Be, we will then transfer you to your overnight hotel in Nosy Be.

Overnight accommodation: Nosy Be Hotel (Twin Room) B/B

Day 8:

This is a free day to relax and explore Nosy Be. This is a stunning beach side location so there are plenty of things to keep you occupied. Alternatively, if you give us plenty of notice and subject to availability we can extend your fishing days given you an extra day and night on the Catamaran.

Overnight accommodation: Nosy Be Hotel (Twin Room) B/B

Day 9:

In the morning once you have checked out of your hotel, you will take a taxi back to Nosy Be airport (taxi not included) to start your journey back to the UK.

Depart Nosy Be
Arrive Addis Ababa.

Day 10:

Depart Addis Ababa
Arrive UK.
