Tarpon Fishing Cuba at El Faro lodge
The real beauty of Tarpon fishing Cuba at El Faro is it allows you to explore and make some history. Tarpon fishing Cuba is still very much in the exploration stages as guides and customers are still learning each season and exploring new areas to fish for certain species at certain times.
You will be primarily fishing for Bonefish, Tarpon and Snook, and you will also have chances to fish for Permit; however, we are still working on finding more areas to target these wary fish. When fly fishing either the deepwater channels or mangrove lagoons you will be fishing from our purpose designed skiffs, these boats allow anglers to comfortably and quickly get to the most productive water. When targeting other species on the saltwater flats, it is possible to fish on foot as you search for species such as Bonefish and Triggerfish.
Another benefit of Tarpon fishing Cuba at El faro is the option of a quick boat ride to the ocean side to target bluewater species. Here you will be fishing deep blue water providing opportunities for Sailfish, Wahoo and Tuna and when the weather permits, a trip out to the bluewater can offer even more to your El Faro experience. Trolled lures or fly fishing for Dorado is an excellent option in the open sea and it may even be possible to tease a Sailfish close enough in to tempt one to take a fly. The one real advantage of El Faro Lodge is that it has been created and run by our partners Untamed Angling, who are one of the most experienced and recognised fly fishing operators in the world. These are same fanatic anglers that discovered and run Tsimane, the Golden Dorado fishing destinations in Bolivia. With their years of working experience of setting up and running international lodges, you can feel confident that you are in expert hands. The management and staff will take care of all the logistics of the trip; all you have to do is fish as hard as you can and enjoy the experience.
Boats
Tarpon fishing Cuba is based on two anglers with one guide in perfectly designed skiffs that are very much like Dolphin skiffs. These boats are very comfortable for two anglers and just the right size to allow you and your guide to access the most productive areas quickly. Fishing is conducted either from fishing with skiffs, with anglers taking turns at the front of the boat, or along the southern region of the peninsula; there are rows and rows of ocean flats that can be easily walked and fished on foot.
Guiding at El Faro lodge
As you would expect we have sourced some top-level guides with many years’ experience, many who have grown up in this area as man and boy. As mentioned, fishing is based on two anglers to one skiff and one guide. Your guide will have a full cool box with cold refreshing drinks, and they will either provide you with a full shore lunch or if you prefer you can return you to the marina to enjoy your lunch with the comfort of air conditioning.

Please note As you will be staying in the Guanahacabibes Peninsula national park and marine reserve, which is a very underdeveloped area.
