Wild Carp Fishing Adventures | River Ebro | Spain

Tour code: SPA010

The River Ebro in Spain for many years has been the mecca for Catfish anglers from across the globe and the Carp have been a nuisance fish, until now. Along with your Carp fishing guide, you will get to experience what this amazing river has to offer the Carp angler, a real unique opportunity to target the huge Wild River Carp that swim this mighty river.

The Carp for many years have been accidentally caught on heavy rods meant for the Catfish so fights have been quick and the Carp have not really stood a chance, but now along with our guides we have complete Carp setups for targeting these majestic Carp and once you have hooked and played one of these supercharged river Carp, you will find it hard to ever go back to a lake.

The River Ebro in Spain is home to some of the worlds biggest River Carp due to the sheer amount of bait that goes in the river for the Cats. Each section of this river looks Carpy with deep wide corners, shallower weedy areas, reed-lined straights and many other Carp holding areas on offer makes this river a very interesting system to Carp fish. You will be based in the village of Caspé in Spain which will give you access to some of the most famous areas that potentially hold some very impressive Carp to huge sizes. So far the guides have landed Carp to 62lb which is a huge river Carp. The average sizes range from 25lb to 45lb and the winter months certainly produce a better stamp of fish. This river offers a true Carp fishing adventure and is not like anywhere else you would have ever fished, forget France and other European venues, make the River Ebro in Spain your next choice when you are looking for a Carp fishing escape.

The Carp fishing on the River Ebro in Spain offers the anglers that grace its bank the opportunity to do battle with some of the hardest fighting Carp you will come across. From the moment those alarms scream to just before sliding the net under them, they will absolutely pull your arm off. These Carp have lived their whole lives doing battle with the currents of the river, escaping the hungry Catfish and other predators which gives them a huge amount of strength and power, these are not your gut bellied lake Carp, these are long, lean fighting machines.

It is as important for us as it is for you that you are fishing with quality tackle that is man enough for the job at hand, as mentioned these Carp fight hard. We have complete Carp setups that have been hand-picked to cope with the fight from these River Carp and along with quality reels and line you will not need to bring anything with you. If you would like to bring along your own terminal tackle, our guide will make sure that all your rigs are up to the job before casting or boating them out. Rigs need to be kept simple as any weakness and the Carp will find it, again your guide will make sure that all rigs are man enough. There is always the strong possibility of hooking one of the many Catfish in the river and expect long fights with these especially on your Carp outfits.

As this river does not allow night fishing, you will be taken down to the river at first light and fish until late afternoon giving you plenty of time to locate those hungry river Carp. The guide has been fishing these rivers for Carp for many years and knows where to target them at any given time so you will be in the best of hands.

The guide that will be looking after you likes nothing more than Carp fishing these Rivers, when you speak to him you will understand his passion for Carp runs through his veins. There is not much he doesn’t know about the Carp and the River. He has spent many years learning their habitats, where they move to at certain times of the year and more importantly how to catch them. Your guide will be with you each and every day ensuring that you have that Carp fishing adventure that you have been dreaming of. He will be there to help tie rigs, assist in putting the rods out and netting your prize fish or alternatively feel free to set up all your own rigs and he will just oversee how you intend on fishing.

Questions & Answers

Where is the hotel?

The hotel is based in a village called Caspé in the Zaragoza region of Spain. In the village, there are restaurants, bars and other activities to keep you busy.

Where do they fish?

The River Ebro will be the focus of your weeks fishing, we have Carp dedicated swims that offer the angler many different options from fast-flowing straights to wide slow bends. The fishing can be a little snaggy sometimes but with the correct tackle, these swims will be overcome.

How long does it take to reach the swims?

This all depends on where the guide thinks the fishing is at its best. You will be transported each day to areas known for holding Carp, but these areas can change regularly but the guide will inform you each day where you will be fishing.

What fish will I catch?

As this is a dedicated Carp fishing holiday the main species will be Carp. It is almost impossible to rule out the possibility of hooking and landing a Catfish. Other species in the river are Pike, Zander and perch.

How many fish will I catch?

When on the Ebro you are fishing for a specimen fish so there may be quiet times but these waters have the capability to produce some absolute monsters so that one run could be the fish of a lifetime. Our guide knows some great Carp holding areas and will try and put you in the right location. But like Carp fishing, anywhere in the world, it can be slow sometimes but then a large pack of hungry Carp will move in and smash everything.

How do they fish?

The rigs are very standard, normally either running ledger or lead clip depending on the stretch of river fishing. Some areas are snag-free whereas some places it is important to dump the lead. Rig wise is simple, a length of 40lb + coated braid to either size 2 or 4 hooks with the hook bait of your choice. The rods are fished on alarms

Do the guides speak English?

Our Carp fishing guide speaks perfect English along with a few other languages.

Who is best suited to this destination?

This holiday is suited to any keen freshwater angler. Someone who loves targeting Carp and other specimen fish will benefit from this holiday. Some knowledge of Carp fishing is helpful but not necessary.

What skill level is required?

Basic knowledge of Carp fishing is helpful but not necessary. Our guide is more than happy to do pretty much all the hard work just leaving you to reel the fish in. However, having a little knowledge of Carp fishing will for sure put more fish on the bank

How physically demanding is this trip?

Some of the swims are down steep muddy banks which can be fairly hard work to navigate. Once down there then the ground tends to be fairly flat.

When to go?

The main Carp season is October to May. You will, of course, catch carp year round however we find that in the cooler months the Catfish tend to be less active giving the carp a chance to get to the bait, which in turn will result in more takes for you the angler.

How to get there?

You will fly from a UK airport (roughly 2 hours) to Zaragoza where you will be picked up by a representative from the Carp fishing guide team. The transfer to the accommodation by car is then around 1.5 hours. If you would prefer, we can change the itinerary so you can drive there, this is a popular choice for those who do not like to fly or simply want to take the scenic route.

What is the accommodation like?

In Spain, you will be staying at the Hotel Magallon. This lovely hotel in the middle of the town of Caspe is the perfect place to rest your head when fishing for the huge Carp that lives here. This hotel has twin room arrangements for your fishing but if you require a single room then please enquire when booking.

What is the food like?

In the town, there are many restaurants to choose from. You will be based on a room only, so you will have the flexibility to take advantage of eating when and where you like.

Does the lodge provide fishing tackle?

All Carp fishing is included on this holiday. If, however, you wish to bring your own terminal tackle please just make sure the guide is aware so he can check your rigs before casting them out.

Is internet and phone signal available?

The phone signal and Wi-Fi is very good around the hotel and it is free for customers to use. Just ask a member of the staff for the password when you arrive.

Are there other activities available?

The village of Caspé is in a beautiful area of Spain meaning that the visiting customers can go for a walk or bike ride. Another option is to visit one of the stunning vineyards close by.

How much does it cost?

We offer the complete package including all flights and transfers. To view, all available weeks and prices click the ‘Dates & Prices’ tab above.

Thanks for the tips Paul those little hook baits done very well for the Carp. We had them to 39lb and you were not wrong about how hard they pull

Thanks for a great holiday

Wow-what a great weeks fishing. We had 9 Carp between 31lb and 52lb, 36 Catfish biggest being 145lb. That river is alive with fish, unlike our UK rivers. Awesome holiday highly recommend to any serious angler

Was disappointed with the fishing, the river was very high and lots of rubbish floating past. Shame really as we had looked for to it for such a long time.

Hey Paul, thanks for recommending this trip. Even though we have not really done much freshwater fishing we all still had a great laugh. Pontus is a great guide and helped us loads

Hello Sportquest. Thanks for helping me organise this surprise holiday for my husband and me. We had a great time and he caught Catfish up to 180lb and a 48lb Carp. I was more than happy to sit with a good book and watch him. Thanks for a great holiday

After the confusion of where to meet our transfer guy, we soon got to the hotel and checked in. Not really much to do in town but we were exhausted from the journey. All in all a great holiday, the fishing was a little slow until we decided to fish just for the Carp. My mate had a 46lb common smashing his PB by over 20lb

Thanks for a great holiday

Hi Paul, thanks for organising this holiday. my grandson loved it. He struggled a little with the Cats but as soon as we started Carp fishing he loved reeling them in. The guide over there is great so please pass on my thanks

All the best Barry

Even though we went for the Catfish the Carp were an excellent distraction and something that we all have agreed we would go back to target. Great holiday and thanks Pontus
