Located primarily in the Eastern and Northern Hemispheres, Asia is the Earth largest continent, covering 44,579,000 square kilometres; it’s also the most populous. It’s home to some of the worlds most stunning and diverse landscapes. The Gobi desert in Mongolia is the worlds sixth-largest. The Yangtze River in China is the continents longest, and the Himalayan Mountains between Nepal and China are the globes tallest.
Tropical rainforests stretch across much of southern Asia, and coniferous and deciduous forests lie farther north.
Asia is bound on the east by the Pacific Ocean, south by the Indian Ocean and north by the Arctic Ocean. Its coastline is equally as impressive as its mainland and spans 62,800 kilometres, making it the longest coastline in the world.
The fishing in Asia is as diverse as the landscape and coastline, and there’s a whole host of fishing opportunities for the travelling saltwater and freshwater angler. One of the most popular destinations is Thailand, well known for its tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and fantastic freshwater fishing. The world-famous Gillhams Resort, Predator Lake, IT Lake, and Bung Sam Lan Lake are home to some of the world’s largest and hardest fighting fish. Species like the Arapaima, Amazon Red Tail, Alligator Gar, Mekong Catfish, Siamese Carp and Giant Snakehead attract anglers from all around the world.
Saltwater fishing in Asia is equally exciting. The Andaman Islands and Oman offer some brilliant big game fishing action, with traditional big game trolling, lure fishing, and jig fishing popular for a whole host of bluewater species. A vast array of formidable fighting predators inhabit the seas, with substantial Giant Trevally, Monster Dogtooth Tunas, Black and Blue Marlin, large Sailfish, Groupers and Sharks all present and willing to take an anglers bait.
