Saltwater Fly Fishing in Bahamas

Andros Island considered by many people to be one of the least explored pieces of land in the western hemisphere. It is 100 miles long by 40 miles wide and covers an area of roughly 2300 square miles; it truly is one of the last under-exploited Bonefish flats in the world.

Bairs Lodge Bahamas is ideally situated to take advantage of the numerous flats that produce shots at Tarpon, Permit, Barracuda, Jacks many different types of Snapper. The main attraction to Bairs Lodge is the name this part of the world has earned over the years: ‘ Worlds Bonefish Capital.’ Due to the sheer amount of chances, one will get during a weeks fishing. To say it’s teeming with Bonefish is no exaggeration, so if your focus is to try for a double-digit Bone or simply enjoying the endless opportunities, you will find that your experience is second to none.

Bairs Lodge Bahamas offers exceptional personalised guest service to small groups of 12 anglers per week; with this small intimate number of guests per week, you will soon feel part of the family, which is very important to the Lodge owners and its staff.

FISHING AROUND BAIRS LODGE

Andros Island has long been known for the biggest Bonefish in the Caribbean; in particular, the southern and western shores of the island have built a reputation for producing true giants. Bairs Lodge, positioned between the South Bight and Waters Cays near Little Creek, gives Bairs Lodge Bahamas guests easy and direct access to the very famous south and west flats while still taking advantage of the many sheltered locations in the interior of the island.

During your stay, some of the fishing opportunities include fishing around some of the worlds most extensive and most varied flats, creeks and bights either via flats wading on from one of the lodges many boats. It’s these incredible Bonefishing opportunities combined with the sheer number and size of Bonefish that make South Andros the Bonefish capital of the world.

Weather permitting, Bairs Lodge Bahamas guests will be offered a unique opportunity to wade the famous Grassy Creek. This fantastic flat stretches as far as the eye can see and holds a considerable abundance of Bonefish. If you decide you would like to fish in areas such as Hawksbill Creek or even Cistern Point, you can expect a 40-minute boat ride, but please remember that this is only available if the weather conditions dictate. If you decide to fish these areas, one can expect to wade in and around vast shoals of Bonefish, an authentic experience of a lifetime. HOW TO SALTWATER FLY FISH

The advantages of fishing around South Andros are the number of opportunities one will receive each day, meaning if you miss cast or don’t quite set the hook, there will be another Bone along pretty soon afterwards. Along with your Bahamian Guide, certified by the Bahamian Guide Association, we will customise your fishing day to meet your expectations. Whether you choose to fish locally or take advantage of the further afield pristine white-sand flats, you will be in for one of the best saltwater fly fishing experiences of your life.

If you decide to fish the local flats such as Deep Creek and Little creek, these will only take a few minutes boat ride from the lodge. These fantastic flats open into large bays encompassed by many small cays where there are always flats protected from the wind. Both creeks allow excellent access to the famous west side and many other cays to the south. When conditions are perfect, these provide guests with the possibility of trying for Permit and Tapon to complete the famous Grand Slam.

As mentioned before, due to the sheer number of shots you will get each day, this destination appeals to saltwater novices. The numbers of Bonefish in this area are outstanding; however, for the dedicated trophy hunters, the reward of a bigger fish is very high. Bairs Lodge Bahamas offer rental rods free of charge, plus spinning rods and reels for Bonefishing or an outing on the reef for barracuda, jacks, or grouper.

Bairs Lodge Boat & Guides

Each pair of anglers will fish with a professional Bahamian guide out of an 18-foot Dolphin flats boats powered by Mercury outboards. Having access to these superb boats will allow you to be fishing within minutes of leaving the lodge and weather permitting, you can even choose to fish the further away flats, reached by a 40-minute boat ride.

The Bahamian guides have been hand-picked for their service and experience of the local waters. They are all certified by the Bahamian Guide Association and classed as the best in the Bahamas; with their professional and personable approach, they will soon put you on the fish and help with any flaws in your casting abilities.

On behalf of the entire group, I would like to express my gratitude for your efforts during our recent stay at Bair’s Lodge.

It is obvious that you are passionate about making Bair’s a wonderful place to stay and fish. I was particularly impressed with the luxurious yet relaxed atmosphere that you and the rest of the staff have created at the lodge.

My group was also impressed with the quality of the guides, they cared about finding and helping us land some bones and they showed friendliness and patience at all times.

Michael

Our party had a great week at the Lodge last week, and the hosts were perfect.
Despite challenging fishing conditions, the guides acquitted themselves very well, and put each boat onto fish.

The house staff were very accommodating, and the food was up to the usual Bairs standards.

Response from Sportquest Holidays

Thank you for the review, it seems that Bair's is always coming out on top.

Canarreos Cuba

Think about a place where you can fish more than 100 miles of flats without seeing another fisherman. A place where the flats fishing is so good, you can catch seven fish species in one day and a place where you have a legitimate chance for a ‘Grand Slam’ every day of the year; that’s Canarreos.

Abaco Lodge Bahamas

Abaco Lodge is located on the Marl's side of Great Abaco Island, in the Bahamas. This area, known as the “Marls of Abaco”, is a vast expanse of prime wilderness Bonefish habitat that has long been known by well-travelled bone fishermen as one of the most unique and productive fisheries in the Bahamas.

Cayo Paredón Cuba

Cayo Paredón is the hottest, newest destination in the portfolio of our partners Fly Fishing the Run. Located in the province of Camaguey, the easternmost, most significant and flattest region in the centre of Cuba, it's a saltwater fly fishing paradise, home to all the 'Grand Slam' species.
