MISSION LODGE | SALMON FLY FISHING | ALASKA

Overview

Tour code: ALL028

At Mission Lodge Alaska, there is no set itinerary. Each night the head guide will sit down with you to discuss what you want to obtain on your fishing trip, wish species to fish for and how. They will then explain all the different options, and with over 40 boats stashed within fly distance, you will not be short of places to fish. We also think that Mission Lodge in Alaska is hands-down one of the most beautiful, best-run operations in Alaska. For a bonus, Mission Lodge is all on a single room basis, so no need to share with strangers — these points alone make Mission Lodge the perfect destination to fish if you are a single angler.

Location

Mission Lodge, situated on the shores of Lake Aleknagik, is located in the heart of the world-famous Bristol Bay region, which is a fishing paradise for Salmon fishing. Each year 40-50 million Sockeye Salmon enter these waters which then combine with the trophy Trout, Char & Grayling to make the most fantastic fishing in a spectacular wilderness setting.

Fishing

The sheer numbers of fish that this area supports is mind-blowing. Over a standard week, you can expect to fish a great variety of waters, from small creeks and streams to large rivers. These rivers contain five species of Pacific Salmon that come up, chrome-bright and full of fight. Throughout the summer and fall season, there is a different combination of Salmon that are available to you as anglers. While Fly Fishing Mission Lodge Alaska, you can fish with a fly, spin or conventional tackle depending on the needs and wants of each person.

The lodge operates a fleet of 3 DeHavilland Beavers and has over 40 boats stashed within flying distance of the lodge. Many destinations you’ll fly in and meet your guide who will be waiting for you with a boat. Other destinations you will fly with your guide and will have a boat at your destination. Some destinations will be accessible only by foot, others will have a kayak waiting for you, or your guide will bring a raft. The guides, pilots and staff expertly orchestrate all logistics.

Each evening management will discuss with you what you would be interested in doing the next day. This allows the fishing guides to tailor the day to suit you. The guides will then gather the necessary tackle for the next day’s fishing from Mission Lodges tackle room. The following morning after breakfast, you will board one of Mission’s floatplanes and fly to one of the many world-class rivers and streams in the Bristol Bay watershed. Mission Lodge has strategically placed boats on such notable rivers as the Igushik, the Togiak, the Good News and the Nushagak, and many smaller rivers, which remain unnamed.

A typical day’s Fly Fishing at Mission Lodge consists of a departure around 8:00 am and a return time around 6:00 pm. These times can change on either end. However, your schedule is entirely up to you and your group.

Guiding

Each day you will fish with a different guide, and it always pays to explore their specific skills or secrets even if you choose to follow your plan. All of the guides are full-time, licensed, and speak fluent English. Guiding based on two anglers per guide.

Other Activities

There is much more to see and do in Alaska than just fishing, so if you like to take in a bit more adventure we can offer you at Mission Lodge either, flightseeing tours, bear viewing trips, hiking and cultural tours.

Accommodation
Mission Lodge

Not only does Mission Lodge provide single or couple occupancy but there are also no single supplement charges making this an idea destination for single anglers. No need to share a room with strangers and the lodge will pair you up with a suitable fishing partner. Another nice feature of Mission lodge is you can if you wish just turn up with a bag of cloths and let the lodge take care of everything else. They provide all tackle, waders and boots.

The Lodge

Mission Lodge in Alaska combines unsurpassed trophy fly fishing with spectacular hospitality. The facilities at Mission are beautiful, all guests’ rooms are spacious and comfortable. As mentioned all rooms are on a single room basis with community bathrooms and showers located on each floor. Private suites with private bathrooms can be arranged for couples or individuals if requested in advance. When it comes to amenities, guest comfort, and customer service, the owner, managers, and staff of Mission truly leave no stone unturned.

A Sauna, Hot tub, sumptuous dining, a comfortable lounge and recreation area are added features of Mission Lodge. There is also a billiards room, a fully-stocked bar area (with all drinks included) and a full fly shop. A large deck surrounding the facility is just steps from the dock, floatplanes and boats. Large bay windows frame views of Lake Aleknagik and the beautiful mountains beyond. This is a rugged immense land of startling beauty – a great place to just step out of everyday pressures and relax possibly with one of the many onsite massages.

Massage offers you the unique opportunity to recover from long, full days of fishing. Relax, rejuvenate and reset your whole system for the next day. For many of you, fishing, climbing in and out of boats and float planes in fishing waders and clompy boots aren’t part of your everyday activities. Muscles you may not remember you even have may suddenly and rudely remind you they are there. You may feel strain in your lower & mid-back or shoulders & neck. The ol’ casting arm may become sore and inflamed. One of the best ways to avoid stiffness, malalignment, reduced flexibility and potential injury is to prevent muscles from fatiguing and staying fatigued.

Massage can help with what the fish dish out. Stack the odds in your favor. Massage infuses muscles with “good stuff,” like oxygen-rich blood, which your muscles and your brain need for optimal performance. It also boosts your immune system, improves quality of sleep, increases mental clarity, reduces pesky nighttime calf cramps, soothes and calms the nervous system as well as lifts mood and spirits.

Food & Drink

Mission Lodge is often called the best restaurant in Bristol Bay Alaska. Given the remote nature of Bristol Bay that might not being saying much, however the lodge goes to great lengths to fly in the freshest produce and meats available in the Northwest. Even without a major grocery store nearby, the chef creates some amazing fair which many refer to as ‘Alaskan Gourmet’. You might even consider it high end comfort food.

If you have dietary restrictions or allergies Mission Lodge will do our its best to accommodate you within reason, just be sure to indicate this on your booking form right after booking your trip. It takes months of planning to get things to magically show up in the remote bush of Alaska.

If you have any questions regarding our Goodnews River Lodge holidays, please feel free to contact us and our experienced team will be happy to help you with any queries you have.

Mission Lodge is absolutely a 5 star experience in accommodations and service.

They have got it right when it comes to taking care of their guests. Our rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable, and their Guides and Pilots are the best there is.

Saying the fishing experience is World Class is an understatement. The whole experience was over the top! This is a must do for the discriminating fly angler. It doesn't get any better than Mission Lodge!

This was my first time to a fishing lodge. I should stop now because it was incredible and nothing else will ever live up to my Mission experience.
The lodging is rustic but very comfortable. The staff was beyond helpful and attentive. Everyone there was there to make sure the visitors had the very best experience.

The activities were better than I could have hoped for...way beyond my expectations. We fished, fished, fished, hiked and viewed bears. The food was delicious! Each night was better than the night before. The staff made sure that we all felt welcome and part of the big picture.
