At Mission Lodge Alaska, there is no set itinerary. Each night the head guide will sit down with you to discuss what you want to obtain on your fishing trip, wish species to fish for and how. They will then explain all the different options, and with over 40 boats stashed within fly distance, you will not be short of places to fish. We also think that Mission Lodge in Alaska is hands-down one of the most beautiful, best-run operations in Alaska. For a bonus, Mission Lodge is all on a single room basis, so no need to share with strangers — these points alone make Mission Lodge the perfect destination to fish if you are a single angler.
Location
Mission Lodge, situated on the shores of Lake Aleknagik, is located in the heart of the world-famous Bristol Bay region, which is a fishing paradise for Salmon fishing. Each year 40-50 million Sockeye Salmon enter these waters which then combine with the trophy Trout, Char & Grayling to make the most fantastic fishing in a spectacular wilderness setting.
Fishing
The sheer numbers of fish that this area supports is mind-blowing. Over a standard week, you can expect to fish a great variety of waters, from small creeks and streams to large rivers. These rivers contain five species of Pacific Salmon that come up, chrome-bright and full of fight. Throughout the summer and fall season, there is a different combination of Salmon that are available to you as anglers. While Fly Fishing Mission Lodge Alaska, you can fish with a fly, spin or conventional tackle depending on the needs and wants of each person.
The lodge operates a fleet of 3 DeHavilland Beavers and has over 40 boats stashed within flying distance of the lodge. Many destinations you’ll fly in and meet your guide who will be waiting for you with a boat. Other destinations you will fly with your guide and will have a boat at your destination. Some destinations will be accessible only by foot, others will have a kayak waiting for you, or your guide will bring a raft. The guides, pilots and staff expertly orchestrate all logistics.
Each evening management will discuss with you what you would be interested in doing the next day. This allows the fishing guides to tailor the day to suit you. The guides will then gather the necessary tackle for the next day’s fishing from Mission Lodges tackle room. The following morning after breakfast, you will board one of Mission’s floatplanes and fly to one of the many world-class rivers and streams in the Bristol Bay watershed. Mission Lodge has strategically placed boats on such notable rivers as the Igushik, the Togiak, the Good News and the Nushagak, and many smaller rivers, which remain unnamed.
A typical day’s Fly Fishing at Mission Lodge consists of a departure around 8:00 am and a return time around 6:00 pm. These times can change on either end. However, your schedule is entirely up to you and your group.

Each day you will fish with a different guide, and it always pays to explore their specific skills or secrets even if you choose to follow your plan. All of the guides are full-time, licensed, and speak fluent English. Guiding based on two anglers per guide.
