Great Alaska Adventure Lodge | Alaska | Salmon

Overview

Tour code: ALL027

Great Alaska Lodge on the Kenai River in Alaska is the ideal location if you wish to combine first class fly fishing for trophy King Salmon with bear watching and adventure activities. The Kenai Rivers Salmon Fishing attracts many anglers and to Alaska every year. On top of this, it is an ideal location for people travelling with non-angling partners due to the array of activities on offer.

The Kenai River supports a healthy population of Chinook, King, Sockeye, Coho and Silver Salmon every year. The Sockeye return to the Kenai by the thousands. With hundreds of thousands of fish in the river, it can be very easy to catch your limit. The Silver Salmon that return to the Kenai are absolutely astounding. They are very large and full of fight adding to the many attractions of the river.

Fishing on the Kenai River is from 20’ River Sleds. These boats are ideal fishing platforms for targeting the world’s largest King Salmon and casting for the acrobatic Silvers. We are fortunate to have been permitted to fish the refuge Trout waters of the upper Kenai. This area is one of the most spectacular Trout fisheries in the state; catch and releasing 25 Trout or Char up to 10 lbs is not uncommon.

The stunning accommodation is located right on the Kenai River; this 3-Star lodge is situated on 25 acres of prime mid-river property overlooking the confluence of the Kenai and Moose rivers with a backdrop of the mountains.

Angela

We spent a week at Great Alaska in July. Our family had a great time. The excursions from the lodge were terrific. We went hiking, saw salmon swimming upriver, fishing in Seward, glaciers hikes, halibut fishing on the Cook Inlet, saw the Grizzlies at Bear camp (thrilling), Fjords boat trip where we saw puffin, baby bald eagles, humpback whales, dolphins, orcas, mountain goats, sheep, sea lions, and Harbor seals. The accommodations at the lodge were very quaint. Our family of 4 had a loft room where the parent's slept downstairs and our 2 kids slept upstairs in the loft. They had activities for the kids in the evening with unlimited fishing on the river bank. My son was out fishing with one of guides, Jason, until 11:30 at night (always daylight). He would have stayed out longer if we didn't drag him back in. Each guide we had was very knowledgeable about the area and friendly. We enjoyed the 7pm happy hour with hors de' oeuvres and finding out on the schedule board what we would be doing the next day. Dinner was at 8pm each night where all of the guests ate as a group. The food was like a gourmet restaurant and was presented beautifully. Breakfast was buffet style. The guests were not at the lodge during the lunch hour so at breakfast they had a sandwich fixings bar set up so the guests could pack a lunch to take with them on their excursions. The guides even came down to the rooms at wake up time with coffee and tea to get you started in the morning.

I would highly recommend this lodge to anyone who is traveling to the area. You will have the same opinion as I do.

Angela, Thank you for such a great destination review.

Mike

Heaven for fly fishing.

The fishing guides were tops!
This lodge has been running for nearly 50 years. The Kenai river fishing was awesome. Rainbows and Dollyvarden over 24" were normal. Sockeye salmon and king salmon in the 10-11 pound range were normal.

I spent five days at Great Alaska Adventure Lodge, each day fishing with my favourite guide "Lucas" - professional, skilled, good teacher and always passionate about our fishing. We had several days of sockeye and coho limits; king season was closed. Also got some huge fat Dollies and Rainbows. The best method was drift fishing. The lodge staff were attentive, the food was good and the scenery from the lodge outstanding.

There were many adventures available to me that I will partake in next time I come - bear viewing, kayaking, hiking, fjord and glacier viewing. The accommodations were comfortable - and I loved the evening happy hour each day.

I was hunting for a fishing experience on the Kenai River in Alaska where my wife would feel at home and would be comfortable in her surroundings. The Great Alaska Adventure Lodge met our every need. The staff was. most professional, friendly and helpful. Great Alaska has a group of fishing guides that are regarded as among the best on the Kenai and Kasil of Rivers. The power boats and drift boats are very comfortable and Great Alaska caters to the occasional / first time fisherman to the dedicated fly fisherman. Both rivers are world renowned for there populations of trophy King Salmon.

The sleeping accommodations were very nice and you received a wake up call with coffee delivered to your door and daily housekeeping service. Breakfast and dinner were provided for each guest and a "pack your own lunch" sandwich buffet was available each morning. A "happy hour" was made available prior to dinner with a host of excellent appetizers and adult beverages. My only less than excellent rating for Great Alaska was the quality of the dinner offerings. Everything at dinner seemed to be overcooked including fresh salmon and halibut.

I had several requests during our 5 day stay and each request including specific fishing guides was honoured.
