Pica Zuro Lodge | Dove Shooting Cordoba | Argentina

Overview

Tour code: ARG112

For those who have never undertaken a dove shooting trip in Cordoba, it is an experience which must rank as a ‘must-do’ in any keen shot’s ‘list of things to do before you die’. Quite apart from the sheer volume of doves in Cordoba, the variety of the shooting is staggering. Birds fly simultaneously in almost every direction, breaking, banking and swirling with many at heights that will test even the most expert of shots. The birds fly literally in waves, darkening the skies and whether you wish to focus on sheer numbers or go for the most challenging shots the options are yours.

Location

Pica Zuro is the most exclusive Dove shooting lodge in Cordoba ideal for large groups (up to 16 guests), couples, and corporate trips—expect great value without sacrificing comfort. It offers unparalleled luxury and comfort from which to enjoy the best shooting ever. Pica Zuro is located at the foot of the “Sierras Chicas” in the province of Cordoba Central Argentina, 60 miles (100km) North of the Cordoba City International Airport.

Shooting

The Shooting in Cordoba is considered the dove shooting capital of the world. Ideal for large group (up to 15 guests), couples, and corporate trips—expect great value without sacrificing comfort. This destination is ideal for either the less experienced or the more seasoned gun, having opportunities to shoot different areas plays to the hunters advantage. What’s more enticing about shooting in Argentina is that with us you can travel as a single gun or take a loved one who doesn’t shoot and not worry about them having nothing to do.

The 100 square mile radius (160 km) around the lodge is annually inhabited by over 40.000.000 million doves and with more than 250,000 acres of land means that you will hunt a mixture of steep hills, sunflower fields, creeks beds, and sorghum plots so you can enjoy variety and quality hunting year round. The lodge enjoys 55 shooting fields in total which makes for a scenic drive to the hunting grounds. Each day hunters leave the pastoral setting and move to the hills and fields where doves fly in spectacular numbers, the lodge donates hundreds of doves to local communities in the area.

The program generally starts at 8:00 AM with a hearty breakfast and short drive to the shoot. In the field, you will be assigned a pick-up boy, who will provide you with shells and refreshments and direct you to your shooting stand. Depending on the time of the year you will shoot till noon when you will be treated to an incredible barbecue lunch, shaded by a comfortable safari tent, tasting some of Argentina’s wonderful beef and superb wines. The afternoon begins at around 2 or 2:30pm and continues until almost dark. There is no quitting time as your energy levels will usually dictate when you will finish. You will return to the lodge for cocktails and an early dinner where there will be time to sit back and relax and be catered to all evening.

Additional Activities

Additional trips can be arranged to San Telmo Market, La Boca neighbourhood and stadium, Tango show, Colón Theatre, and Plaza de Mayo. Also, city tours and Estancia tours are available to non-hunting companions. In the evenings, this “City which never sleeps” is open for concerts, shows, cinemas, casinos, clubs, coffee shops, and pubs. There is much to enjoy for all types of interests. You will have the opportunities for a deep tissue massage to help those effected muscles from all the shooting or just for holistic purposes. There is also a gift shop which offers local artwork and crafts. If you have any questions regarding our Pica Zuro lodge holidays, or any of our shooting destinations, please feel free to contact us on 01603 407596 and our experienced team will be happy to help. Accommodation
Pica Zuro Lodge

When you arrive at the swinging gate outside Pica Zuro and proceed up the winding drive, you’ll sense at once that the lodge has had time to age and settle. Things look comfortable here, geese swim in the pond and fan blinds swirl on the porches. There’s a feeling of old world elegance that starts outdoors and extends throughout each room of the property. It’s a perfect background for dove shooters and their guests to enjoy, unwind and revel in a perfect shooting holiday.

The Lodge

Photographs of Pica Zuro have never done it justice. Some great old buildings are like that. This one is. The rooms are bigger, the ceilings higher, and the chairs are softer than they seem in photos. It is peaceful and tidy in the rooms, quiet on the outside verandas. After a hunting day you may want some quiet, or a place to laugh with friends while our professional waiters bring drinks and snacks. A photo doesn’t capture the whisper of the fan blades overhead, or the tinkling of ice in glasses. You have to visit to enjoy it and photos don’t come close to explaining the dove hunting either.

Pica Zuro is a full sized lodge that will accommodate as many as sixteen shooters in a total of 9 bedrooms, each with private en-suite and baths. Shared accommodation is the norm, many shooters enjoy the privacy of their own accommodation and single rooms are popular, with a small surcharge. In addition to the well-appointed bedrooms, the lodge also offers huge living and lounge areas, a pool, billiards table and attractive bar area.

For those that need to keep in touch with home base, there is satellite television, internet access and, of course, telephone. The lodge also offers maid and laundry service and an on site masseuse.

After a shooting day you may want some quiet time or a place to laugh with friends, while professional waiters bring drinks and snacks.

It also has many of the important necessities and some extras that you may or not expect to find in a shooting lodge, including; a recreation room, gun cleaning table and facilities, telephone and Internet access (WIFI). Gift shop offers local artwork and crafts, logo wear and accessories.

Food and Drink

At Pica Zuro, they take your dining experiences seriously, and they strive to make every meal as wonderful as every trip to the field. They offer a la carte dining to our shooting guests. Their kitchens come to life through the use of fresh and regionally representative meats and produce. By combining these elements, they create delicious flavours and varied textures that harbour hidden stories and package traditions on each plate. A top-notch team of experienced national and international chefs, trained in both classic and avant-garde culinary techniques, execute our food. With an artisan’s touch, chefs prepare every dish by scratch to be served at a minute’s notice. Days start with a hearty breakfast composed of a variety of homemade breads, jam, meadow honey, fresh fruit, natural yoghurts, cereals and eggs prepared any one of six ways, including porridge, French toast and the daily special. They legendary field lunches at Córdoba are all about asado-style cooking. Lunch is served al’ fresco in the hunting area each day featuring a variety of choice meats and salads, grilled dove breasts, short ribs, plus lamb, grilled chicken, etc. Bread comes from our own bakery. Beverages and delicious deserts are included. The evening meal is a celebration of fine dining in a casual setting, and it is a chance for the house chefs to really shine. Again, options are a la carte, so if you are enjoying their famous beef and wish to enjoy a steak each evening, they’ll happily grill one to order, but if you’d dare be a bit more adventurous and wish to try Risotto with calamari ink, or grilled trout with tomato puree, then they encourage you to sample specialty dishes. Finally, there are the desserts. Each day brings a new creation, from flan to their local delight, dulce de leche, plus fruit, homemade ice creams, and pies.

Wines

Their inspired lunch and dinner menus are paired with some of Argentina’s— and the world’s—best wines, from Bodega Catena Zapata. They celebrate their Argentine heritage with a wine partnership that brings truly world class wines to the lodges. They feel that the food they present and the wines they serve should mirror the sporting opportunities they offer—and be the very best available. They feel the offerings from Bodega Catena Zapata blend perfectly into the harmonious niche in the sporting environment. Boasting many accolades from the wine community at large, a Bodega Catena Zapata wine recently received a “number four in the world” icon ranking from Wine Advocate. These are truly great wines that compete on the world stage and in addition to enjoying your sporting holiday and our excellent menus, we hope you will also take note of our wines. They hold a special place in their culture and they are proud to serve them to you.

Who is best suited to this destination?

A keen and well-seasoned wing shooter would appreciate this destination due to the opportunity for a selection of challenging birds. However, at the same time it would be an ideal place for the beginner and intermediate gun to try his hand at plentiful well-presented birds whilst being well looked after on their peg.

What skill level is required?

Both experienced and beginner wing shooters can fully appreciate the delights of this trip. With the high and testing birds for the more well-seasoned gun down to the countless opportunities to the improve their skill on the copious amounts of low incoming targets for the less experienced.v

How physically demanding is this trip?

This is a fairly low key affair with regards to the amount of walking and lugging equipment about. However, be prepared to be shooting an incredibly hefty amount of shells through your gun during the days sport as this can in itself be very punishing on the shoulder by the end of the day. Fred

It seems rare in today’s crazy / hyper-connected real-time world to find destinations where you can simply ‘relax, and take it all in’ – at least as much as possible when there are SO MANY doves that need to be shot—and so much wonder food/wine that ‘needs’ to be consumed! PICA ZURO Lodge, and the fabulous staff and field guides provided an experience that absolutely exceeded my expectations in every respect—from start to finish… and I mean that 100%

What a great detailed review, thanks for taking the time

Jeffery

Trip of a life! Wouldn’t think of another group to trust all the details with.

Even the smallest details were taken care of – which is important

James

Entire Trip was fabulous. Lodge facilities were excellent, staff most helpful + professional operating with genuine helpfulness. Shooting was outrageous given the quantity of birds plus was most enjoyable, especially for my sons. I would (and have) recommend this trip/lodge to friends for a magnificent hunting opportunity

5 star shooting experience with attention to detail. You won’t do better. An unbelievable dove hunt. I will be back with my sons again

Andrew

I’d like to thank all the organization for the most wonderful opportunity to hunt at Pica Zuro last week. The tripmore than exceeded every hope and expectation I had. From the service, to the meals, to the shooting, everything was perfect. Never could I imagine shooting over 4200 rounds in 3.5 days! The lodge manager, Maria Capizzi, was an absolutely wonderful host. My field assistant, Lucas, was a trooper, loading all 4200+ shells for me, even on a 101+ degree day. All the field assistants and lodge staff treated us like royalty. I would have to say this trip ranked in the top three vacations I’ve ever been on (the other two being my honeymoon and 10 year anniversary)!

You can most certainly use me as a reference as I can’t imagine anyone having less than a spectacular time
