This Sportquest Holidays exclusive solo week has been carefully designed for single anglers seeking an exciting shark-fishing adventure in South Africa. Unlike many overseas fishing holidays, where you may need to travel with a friend or organise a group of anglers to make a trip viable and cost-effective, this special departure allows solo anglers to join a group of like-minded customers travelling and fishing together.
The package price is based on sharing a twin room with another angler from the group, helping keep costs lower than arranging a private trip independently. For those who prefer their own room, single-occupancy accommodation may be available at an additional cost, subject to availability.
Few encounters in fishing demand as much resolve as taking on a Bronze Whaler Shark. These formidable predators patrol the surf line with purpose, hitting baits hard and tearing off on blistering runs that test both tackle and nerve. Along Namibia’s legendary Skeleton Coast, this style of shore fishing is raw, physical, and utterly addictive. Long casts and drone-deployed baits place you right in the feeding zone, and once the take comes, it’s a battle of pressure, stamina, and technique. Alongside the Whalers, anglers can expect a rich supporting cast including Seven-Gill Cow Sharks, Spotted Gully Sharks, Smoothhounds, Lesser Guitarfish, Eagle Rays, Kabeljou, and Steenbras, with lighter tackle providing fast-paced action between the heavy hits. Expert guidance and 4×4 access ensure you’re always fishing the most productive stretches of coast.
When the rods are racked, comfort is close at hand. Just steps from the beach, your accommodation offers spacious en-suite rooms, sea air on the breeze, and a relaxed communal space to unwind. Evenings are a highlight in their own right, with outstanding meals prepared by your host, a Michelin-trained chef, using fresh local ingredients, superb seafood, and carefully selected South African wines. It’s the perfect way to recharge after a day on the sand, with the sound of the ocean never far away.

"In a word ‘epic’ . Target fish achieved. The hosts/guides made the holiday a unique experience just outstanding. It’s going to take a few days maybe weeks for me to compute exactly what we experienced during our visit to Namibia."
"What a place, what a trip and what a fish. Having just returned from Namibia I can honestly say that it was one of the best trips I have ever been on. The fishing is superb and despite some difficult tides Louis always made sure that we were on the fish and he would often move several times a day to make sure that the bites continued. The accommodation and hospitality was excellent and we had great fun and food in the evenings. For me the trip was made on day one when after a 4 hour and 20 minute battle I landed my first Bronze Whaler at a measurement of 238 it clocked in at 194.7kg or 430lbs which I believe is the largest Louis had ever caught or seen and for me a fish of a lifetime. My thanks to everybody at Sportquest and particularly to Louis and Anneke."
"When you read reports about certain destinations in the world. You wonder if they are true. In the case of Shark fishing in Namibia. They are.
Louis and Nicki. Host and hostess are the best host and hostess you could wish for. The fishing guides. Krona, Alex with Cristian just add to the professional set up.
From our first day’s fishing to the last. Every attempt was made to catch the fish of a lifetime. Louis knew the country inside out. Our many miles of travelling to catch the elusive Bronze Whaler. Was talked about in great pride and gusto. My fellow travellers’ Kev, Mike, and Julia. We’re as interested as me. A vast amount of laughter accompanied these days of travel.
The countryside is harsh, bleak, and windswept. With an undercurrent of beaty and tranquillity. It is really an experience not to be missed, to venture into this terrain.
From fishing to food. All requests were greeted with equal amount of enthusiasm. You could eat yourself to death. With the excellent meals delivered in the lodge or on a BBQ at the beach.
The friendliness of Louis, Nicki and the three guides is something to behold. Literally nothing is too much trouble. You do not have to catch fish. To enjoy fishing. The landscape, people met, and places visited. Were all part of this magical package. Would I go back. Yes.
Foot Note
If the equivalent of Louis was situated in Gabon. I would go back to Sette camp in a blink of and eye. Although the guides in Sette camp were good. There were in a different league to Louis. Who I have the greatest admiration for. From fishing tackle supplied to knowledge of the sea. Louis is the Master.

"Fishing in Namibia, would be totally out of my comfort zone , which was partly why I went .
The fishing was tough ,due to higher than normal tides. However due to the skills of our guide Louis and Alex , we caught 9 species including Spotted Shark and Rays . We often moved to different spots , along the coastline line , we cooked our catch on the beach . Make sure you are covered up as the sun is brutal. Louis and his wife hospitality's at the guest house was fabulous, great food great company and a fantastic trip. Thank you Sportquest Holidays

"This was best fishing holiday we have ever been on. The guest house was fantastic, the food was absolutely outstanding. We were made to feel very welcome by Nikki and Louis. Nothing was too much trouble and Nikki is definitely the hostess with the mostest. Louis and his team of guides were brilliant, their local knowledge and hard work and determination to get us on fish was second to none. Louis is real character. If you want a fishing challenge like no other then a big old “bronzey” is what you want. Those fish fight! I would definitely recommend this holiday to anybody, I’m already planning a return."

"Experience of a life time. Louis the fishing guide is a gem. Had us on the fish every day Anneke his wife is the perfect host at the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble. She even organised an overnight stay at a safari lodge. If you’re a first timer to those parts you need to take second skin clothing. Factor 50 doesn’t cut it on the Skeleton Coast. Even the locals (Louis) wear second skin leggings"

Your hosts, Louis Fenaux and Anneke Cloete, go above and beyond to create a memorable experience. As both a seasoned angler and Michelin-trained chef, Louis brings his passion for fishing and food together to offer a unique hospitality experience.
Dining at Fisherman’s Lodge is a highlight in its own right. Breakfast and dinner are served at the lodge, while lunch is typically enjoyed on the beach during your fishing session. Meals are hearty, home-cooked, and full of flavour, with fresh fish, premium meats, pasta dishes, and local favourites all making appearances on the menu. If you have specific dietary requirements, Louis is happy to cater to your needs with the same attention to detail he’s known for in the kitchen.
From time to time, dinners may even be served under the stars on the beach, a memorable way to end a day’s fishing. The lodge also offers a fully stocked bar, with a wide selection of beers, spirits, and soft drinks to help you unwind and toast a successful day.
Whether you’re here for the world-class shark fishing, the spectacular scenery, or the warm hospitality, Fisherman’s Lodge offers the complete package for your Namibian adventure.

Namibia’s rugged Atlantic coastline is home to one of the largest populations of Bronze Whaler Sharks anywhere in the world, firmly establishing it as one of the premier destinations for shore-based big-game fishing. If landing a truly powerful Bronzie has long featured on your angling bucket list, a trip to this spectacular corner of Africa offers a genuine opportunity to make it happen. These sharks are fast, aggressive, and immensely strong, providing battles that test both tackle and angler to the absolute limit.
Fishing takes place along the wild and hauntingly beautiful Skeleton Coast, where the cold, nutrient-rich Benguela Current meets the heat of the vast Namib Desert. Based near the coastal town of Henties Bay, anglers have access to a wide selection of productive fishing marks, all within a short 30-minute drive. The coastline here is defined by long, open stretches of sandy beach with very few snags, creating ideal conditions for long-range casting and extended, hard-fought encounters in the surf. Morning fog often rolls in from the ocean, keeping temperatures cool and adding to the dramatic atmosphere.
Adding to the sense of adventure, the shoreline is scattered with striking shipwrecks, some dating back decades, others far more recent, creating a unique and photogenic backdrop to your fishing sessions.
With its raw scenery, immense power-packed fishing, and a feeling of true wilderness, Namibia delivers a shore-based angling experience that is as memorable as it is challenging, perfect for anglers seeking something truly different.

Named for their habit of congregating around whale carcasses after hunts, Bronze Whaler Sharks are fast, aggressive predators that push anglers to their limits. These powerful fish are commonly found cruising the surf zone, either alone, in pairs, or in loose schools numbering into the hundreds. Reaching lengths of over 3 metres and tipping the scales at more than 400lb, with an average weight of around 100lb, they are among the most formidable shore-based game fish on the planet.
Primarily bottom feeders, their diet includes bony fish, squid, cuttlefish, and octopus. In South Africa, they’re closely tied to the annual Sardine Run, where millions of baitfish trigger an explosion of feeding activity along the coast. In Namibia, it’s the vast sandy beaches of the Skeleton Coast that bring them close to shore, well within reach of heavy surfcasting tackle and baited rigs. Big meaty presentations and serious gear are essential, and when a Bronzie hits, expect blistering, unstoppable runs straight back to the open sea.
But Namibia isn’t just about the Bronze Whalers. The region offers outstanding multi-species shore fishing, with a supporting cast that includes the prehistoric-looking Seven-Gill Cow Shark, Spotted Gully Sharks, massive Smoothhounds, Lesser Guitarfish, and a variety of Rays, Kabeljou, and Steenbras. Each species brings its own unique fight and thrill, keeping every session dynamic, varied, and full of potential.
Whether you’re chasing giants or discovering the whole variety of this fish-rich coast, Namibia delivers one of the most exciting and rewarding shore-based saltwater adventures anywhere on earth.
In Namibia, all the fishing is done entirely from the shore, with no need for boats, making it ideal for those who enjoy the comfort of solid ground while pursuing serious game fish.
All the fishing techniques used are classic shore-fishing tactics, typically featuring 14-foot rods paired with large multipliers to handle the vast amounts of line required for long-distance casting. Baits are big and bloody, either cast out manually or flown out with drones to distances beyond 250 metres to reach the strike zone where the Bronzies roam. Traditionally, when targeting the Bronzies, a number of rods will be baited and cast into the water at intervals along the shoreline. These are then fished on rotation, meaning the bites are shared equally amongst the group.
If you wish to have some fun while waiting for one of the ‘big rods’ to scream off, it’s possible to fish in the surf with lighter tackle. Namibia’s rich coastal waters are also home to a range of exciting light tackle species, including Spotted Gully Sharks, Smoothhounds, Eagle Rays, Sand Sharks, and Kabeljou. Lighter setups are used for these fish, offering variety throughout the day and keeping the action consistent.
Whether you’re a seasoned shark angler or new to the sport, this trip is suitable for anglers of all experience levels. Our expert guide will provide full support, coaching, and gear advice to make sure you get the most from your time on the water. 4×4 vehicles transport you to each mark, so you walk as little as possible and spend more time fishing. While some fights, especially with the big sharks, can be lengthy and intense, the overall trip is not physically demanding, making it accessible to most.

Your fishing adventure in Namibia is in expert hands with Louis and Anneke, our longtime friends and trusted partners, and the dedicated owners of this exceptional shore-based operation. With years of experience fishing the Skeleton Coast, they’ll be with you throughout your trip, ensuring everything runs smoothly both on and off the water.
Louis and Anneke know every stretch of this remarkable coastline and exactly which beaches produce best at various tide stages. Whether it’s helping you bait up, assisting with long-distance casting, or capturing the perfect trophy photo for your fishing album, they’re always close by, offering hands-on support and warm hospitality.
Louis, originally from Belgium, a country famous for great food and fine chocolate, has three lifelong passions: hunting, fishing, and food. After years of working in Michelin-starred kitchens, he traded the fast pace of high-end cuisine for the raw beauty of the Namibian wilderness, where he and Anneke built their dream at Fisherman’s Guesthouse. Today, Louis lives that dream daily: guiding, cooking, and fishing along one of the world’s most dramatic coastlines.
And when it comes to gear, Namibia takes the hassle out of preparation. All tackle is provided, including high-spec rods, reels, and end tackle, purpose-built for the demands of heavy-duty shore fishing. Fresh bait is also included, so you can focus entirely on the action.
