FAQ

Astove Atoll lies 1,055 kilometres southwest of Mahé in the Seychelles, forming part of the remote southern coral islands of the Indian Ocean. The atoll spans just six kilometres from north to south and features the famous Astove Wall, a dramatic underwater drop-off often compared to an “underwater Grand Canyon.”
Known as one of the best GT destinations on Earth, Astove Atoll produces exceptional numbers of Giant Trevally, with anglers receiving shots at multiple trophy fish per week. Its unique lagoon and powerful tidal flow create ideal feeding conditions that draw these apex predators into shallow water.
While Giant Trevally are the headline species, anglers also encounter Bonefish, Indo-Pacific Permit, Bluefin Trevally, Triggerfish, Barracuda, Bumphead Parrotfish, and Milkfish. Offshore waters add Yellowfin Tuna, Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, and Sailfish to the mix.
Giant Trevally can reach up to 120lb, with Bonefish around 9lb, Triggerfish to 20lb, and Milkfish up to 50lb. This combination of trophy size and variety makes Astove Atoll a must-visit for dedicated saltwater fly anglers.
The shallow lagoon has only one narrow exit, the Gueule Bras Channel, where tides ebb for ten hours and flood for just two. This creates intense currents that pull baitfish through the flats — the perfect ambush zone for Giant Trevally and other predators.
The Astove fishing season runs from November to April, coinciding with warm, stable northwest trade winds. Weeks with full or new moons tend to be at a premium as the increase in tidal range and flow of water, in and out of the flats, benefit the GT’s that lie in ambush. Sometimes when fishing for the other flats species, the opposites may apply, as many of them form part of the Giant Trevally’s diet.
Each trip is led by world-class fly-fishing guides with years of Seychelles experience. Fishing is done from Mitzi skiffs for flats and Mini-Mahé tenders offshore. All guides are qualified skippers, first-aid trained, and renowned for their passion and expertise.
Anglers stay at Astove Island Lodge, a small coral lodge catering for only six guests per week. The six single, air-conditioned rooms each have private bathrooms, arranged around a central courtyard, creating a comfortable and exclusive atmosphere on this untouched island.
The lodge serves Creole and international cuisine, with hearty breakfasts, packed lunches, and buffet-style dinners in the main dining room. Soft drinks and mineral water are included, while local beer is available to buy, and guests can bring their own spirits or wine.
Astove Atoll is a true wilderness destination. Guests can enjoy snorkelling, beach walks, or exploring the reef edge, but facilities are minimal. This trip is not recommended for non-angling companions.
