FAQ

Fisherman Lodge sits in the small beachfront village of Punta Allen, deep within the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. Around three hours from Cancún, it offers a remote, pristine base for exploring Ascension Bay’s world-famous saltwater flats.
The bay is home to all the classic flats species, including Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, and Snook, alongside Jacks, Barracuda, and Snapper. It’s one of the best destinations on earth to pursue a Grand Slam or Super Slam.
Protected by the Sian Ka’an reserve, the waters remain untouched and rich with life. The mix of clear flats, mangroves and lagoons creates a haven for big Permit, plentiful Bonefish, and aggressive juvenile Tarpon — ideal for both experienced and first-time saltwater fly anglers.
Each boat has two professional guides, giving anglers the freedom to fish different areas or species at the same time. Whether wading for Bonefish or casting to Tarpon, this setup ensures constant action and expert spotting.
Guests fish from traditional Mexican Pangas fitted with comfortable seating, poling platforms, secure rod storage, and large casting decks. Every boat carries life vests, first aid, and waterproof UHF radios for safety.
The lodge blends modern comfort with authentic charm, featuring nine spacious, air-conditioned rooms, each with twin beds, private bathrooms, and fly-tying areas. Electricity runs 24 hours via generators, and staff ensure a seamless, relaxed stay.
There’s much more than fishing — guests can enjoy eco-tours, snorkelling, kayaking, birdwatching, or simply relaxing by the freshwater pool or on the Caribbean beach with a drink from the bar and grill. A fantastic family friendly destination.
Dining at Fisherman Lodge is exceptional. Three co-head chefs prepare fresh local dishes using seafood, tropical fruits, and regional ingredients. From lobster lunches on the boat to evening feasts of grilled snapper, enchiladas, or steak, the cuisine is a highlight of the trip.
Fishing is productive year-round, but February often brings peak action for Permit. With stable weather and warm water, Ascension Bay is ideal for pursuing Grand Slams.
This is a world-class saltwater fly fishing retreat ideal for both seasoned anglers and beginners. With expert guides, a friendly atmosphere, and superb comfort, it’s a place where skills improve, spirits lift, and lifelong fishing memories are made.
