Take a selection of big poppers and smaller ones, and a general rule of thumb is the more giant poppers you use, you will catch the bigger GT’s. Be warned if you are not a seasoned GT angler, then casting these heavy lures all day will take its toll, so having some smaller ones will undoubtedly see you casting for longer.

At a pre-arranged time, Sportfishing PNG representative will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you down to the marina, where you will board the mothership. Once you have settled in, you will be invited on deck to brief the next 6 days of fishing. This will be your chance to ask the guides any questions you may have and go through the tackle you have bought with you. The rest of the day will be free to relax onboard K20.

Over the next 6 days will get the chance to catch some pretty impressive fish ranging from huge Wrasse to the very sought after GT. There are many different species on offer, and each day the guides will ask what you would like to target and how you would like to fish. The areas you will be taken to vary greatly and will be picked for your chosen fishing style. The most practised style of fishing will be popper and jig fishing. Fresh lunch will be made every day, and ice-cold drinks will be stored in the onboard cooler. The lunch will include sandwich/roll, snacks, fruits and many drinks as it is important to stay hydrated during the long hot days.

On this day, you will be taken back to Alotau, where you be then taken to Alotau airport for your short flight back to Port Moresby, where you will then spend your last night before heading home.

I just came home from my second blue water trip with sfpng and I can’t wait to go again! The fishing is unreal with big fish smashing poppers and jigs at every turn, the accommodations are excellent (the boats are well kept and comfortable) and the crew is top-notch and will go above and beyond to put you on fish and make you feel at home, one other thing to note is the wide variety of foods to eat on the mothership, it’s like eating at a five-star restaurant, thanks sfpng for another great trip, see you next year!
Been out with the sfpng crew a few times now. I prefer to call their trips a fishing holiday. As your very comfortable aboard the air conditioned mothership K2O and the food is excellent other operations could learn a thing or two. Fishing boats are now all Centre consoles and have quality electronics which is vital in opening up the at times crazy fishing potential of png. The number of crew almost matched the anglers and made every effort to make our trip and pleasurable as possible.
Also worth a mention we were picked up from the airport and always kept safe at no time did we feel like we were in any danger.
