This Sportquest Holidays exclusive solo week has been carefully designed for single anglers seeking an exciting bluewater fishing adventure targeting a range of species in Boca Chica, Panama. Unlike many overseas fishing holidays, where you may need to travel with a friend or organise a group of anglers to make a trip viable and cost-effective, this special departure allows solo anglers to join a group of like-minded customers, travelling and fishing together.
The package price is based on sharing a twin room with another angler from the group, helping keep costs lower than arranging a private trip independently. For those who prefer their own room, single-occupancy accommodation may be available at an additional cost, subject to availability.
Bluewater Fishing Panama offers solo anglers the chance to experience some of the richest waters in the Pacific. Based in Boca Chica, you’ll have direct access to legendary grounds such as the Gulf of Chiriquí, Hannibal Bank, and Isla Montuosa, which are home to over 50 IGFA World Records. Fishing alongside a small group of like-minded anglers, you’ll enjoy a world-class experience without compromise.
Offshore, expect Black and Blue Marlin, Pacific Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, and Dorado, while inshore Roosterfish, Cubera Snapper, Amberjack, and Grouper provide explosive action. Each day is fully guided, with expert crews helping you make the most of every opportunity using a variety of techniques.
Back at the resort, comfortable ocean-view cabañas, an infinity pool, spa, and bar provide the perfect place to unwind, with evenings centred around fresh seafood and Panamanian cuisine.

Accommodation is offered in a collection of stylish bungalow-style rooms, locally known as cabañas, all designed with a modern, contemporary feel. Each enjoys beautiful views over the Pacific Ocean or the resort’s lush, manicured gardens, just a short stroll away.
The cabañas vary in size and layout, ranging from single-level units with two queen or king-size beds to larger, two-storey options complete with private decks, full kitchens, and living areas. All rooms are well-appointed with en-suite bathrooms featuring both shower and bath, air conditioning, cable TV, refrigerator, safe, and Wi-Fi.
Around the resort, guests can take advantage of a wide range of facilities, including two swimming pools (one of which is an infinity pool), tennis and basketball courts, massage treatments, and yoga sessions. A private beach and the main restaurant-bar are also within easy reach, with the accommodation set across gently sloping grounds.
Dining at the resort is centred around quality, variety, and a welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant serves an international-style menu featuring a selection of well-prepared dishes at reasonable prices. For a more personalised experience, guests can even bring their catch of the day to the chef, who will prepare it into a memorable seafood meal.
After dinner, the terrace bar, overlooking the breathtaking Gulf of Chiriquí, is the perfect place to unwind with a drink, sharing stories with fellow anglers as the sun sets.
Your stay includes a full breakfast each morning, along with a packed lunch for your fishing days, plus snacks, fresh tropical fruit, soft drinks, bottled water, and ice-cold beer to keep you refreshed throughout your time on the water.

Bluewater Fishing Panama is based in Boca Chica, close to the city of David on Panama’s south coast, overlooking the fish-rich waters of the Gulf of Chiriquí. This region is globally renowned for its outstanding saltwater fishing and has produced more than 50 IGFA World Records over the years.
Just offshore lie some of the world’s most productive fishing grounds, including iconic locations such as Hannibal Bank, Isla Montuosa, the Triangle, and Isla Ladrones. These areas are home to an incredible variety of species, including monster Yellowfin Tuna, Blue and Black Marlin, Pacific Sailfish, Wahoo, Dorado, Cubera Snapper, Amberjack (often referred to as “Reef Donkeys”) and Grouper.
Fishing here is excellent year-round, offering you the opportunity to enjoy a diverse and action-packed experience, whether you’re a seasoned big-game fisherman or new to the sport. Guided by an experienced team and fishing from a quality offshore sportfishing vessel, you and your group will employ a range of techniques such as trolling, jigging, live baiting, and casting poppers to maximise your chances of success.
For those looking to explore further, there’s plenty to enjoy off the water too, from white-water rafting and waterfall hikes to horseback riding and zip-lining through the jungle canopy. It’s an ideal destination not only for anglers but also for couples, families, and those seeking a well-rounded holiday experience.

With over eleven different techniques available and a huge variety of species on offer, this is one of the most diverse bluewater fishing experiences we offer. If you’re a solo traveller looking for a week packed with variety and high-octane action, Bluewater Fishing Panama delivers on every level.
The Gulf of Chiriquí is internationally recognised as a top destination for popper fishing. Its rugged coastline, scattered islands, and rocky outcrops are home to hard-hitting species such as Cubera Snapper, Roosterfish, and various Jacks. Offshore, the action continues, with Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado, and Wahoo all willing to smash surface lures. Large, noisy poppers that create plenty of disturbance often produce the most explosive strikes.
Jigging is another highly productive method and often proves effective when other techniques fall short. It’s particularly useful for enticing less active fish and is a go-to approach for targeting deep-dwelling species such as Snapper, Grouper, and Amberjack.
Live baiting is a key part of the fishery and typically involves three main bait types: Bonito, Blue Runners, and Sardines. Each is used differently depending on the target species. Bonito are commonly slow-trolled offshore for Marlin and Sailfish, Blue Runners are fished inshore for Roosterfish and Snapper, while Sardines are ideal for sight-casting to feeding Yellowfin Tuna.
Although this trip is primarily focused on lure and bait fishing, fly anglers are also well catered for, both inshore and offshore. For best results, we recommend 9ft rods in the 12 to 14-weight range, paired with high-quality large-arbour reels featuring strong disc drag systems.
All popper, jigging, and live bait tackle is supplied by the lodge, so you can travel light and focus purely on the fishing. The only equipment you’ll need to bring is your own gear if you plan to fly fish.
The waters off Panama’s Pacific coast are globally recognised for their outstanding fishing, offering an incredible variety of species, impressive catch rates, and the chance to encounter true specimen-sized fish.
Just 20 miles offshore, anglers can target powerful Yellowfin Tuna, with the famous Hannibal Bank standing out as one of the most productive areas. These fish travel in fast-moving schools and are perfectly built for speed, chasing down baitfish such as Flying Fish, Sardines, and Mackerel. While fish around the 100lb mark are common, much larger specimens are landed each season.
For many anglers, Billfish represent the pinnacle of big-game fishing. In these waters, you have the opportunity to target Black, Blue, and Striped Marlin, as well as Pacific Sailfish. These powerful pelagic species patrol the reefs and offshore structures around Hannibal Bank, feeding on baitfish such as Rainbow Runners and Skipjack.
A true icon of Panama’s coastline, the Roosterfish is easily recognised by its distinctive comb-like dorsal fin. Found predominantly inshore, these aggressive predators are known for their explosive takes and relentless fights. They can grow to over 1.6 metres in length and exceed 100lb, although fish around 20lb are more typical. The current IGFA record stands at an impressive 114lb.
Among the various Snapper species found in Panama, the Cubera is the standout favourite. Renowned for its size and brute strength, it offers a serious challenge on any tackle. While other species such as Mullet, Red, and Barred Snapper are present, the Cubera’s reputation for power and versatility across different techniques makes it a top target.
The fishery is further enhanced by species such as Dorado, Wahoo, and a range of hard-fighting Jacks. All grow to impressive sizes and are known for their aggressive nature, readily attacking both live baits and artificial lures.

Our solo-traveller dates at the start of April have been scheduled in conjunction with our friends and partners at the lodge to offer as many fishing opportunities as possible.
Whilst many of the traditional bottom feeders are abundant all year round, some of the bigger Pelagic fish are highly migratory. Below is a rough guide to each species’ peak time of year, but remember: fishing is fishing, and the fish don’t read calendars.
For all Billfish species, like Marlin and Sailfish, the best time of year to visit is between December and April, although August and September can also produce good numbers of fish. For Tuna, it’s a similar pattern, although the peak season starts a little later in January and runs through until around August. For most other species, like the Roosterfish, Snappers, Groupers and Jacks, it’s all year round.
Water temperature, wind, current, and bait can cause these standard patterns to fluctuate, but the captains and guides on the boat will chat with you and the group, offering their opinions on what species will give you the best chance of a successful fishing day. They are experts in offshore fishing, have been doing it for multiple years and know the waters like the back of their hands.
