Ebro Delta Fishing Spain Fantastic Mixed Fishing

Customer Rating 95%

First-Class In-Shore & Off-Shore Fishing On The Ebro Delta, Spain

The Ebro Delta is one of Europe’s most dynamic fisheries, a vast wetland covering more than three hundred square kilometres and home to a remarkable range of species. Inland, monster Carp and Catfish dominate, while offshore the Mediterranean delivers predators that test skill, speed, and stamina. For anglers who like variety, the Delta provides opportunity at every turn.

The river holds Wels Catfish of immense size and Carp topping 40lb, alongside Black Bass that thrive in the quieter backwaters. In the Delta itself, Bluefish, Palometón, and Bass smash lures in shallow water. Step offshore and the targets multiply — Bluefin Tuna, Bonito, Llampuga, Amberjack, and Mackerel provide explosive battles, with Tuna topping the list for sheer power. Each season brings different highlights, from light spinning for Bluefish to full-contact stand-up fights with pelagic giants.

Fishing is fully guided, with high-quality tackle included. Days can be customised to suit your style, whether you prefer spinning, jigging, trolling, popping, or fly. The guides know both the river and the offshore grounds, maximising variety and putting anglers into action quickly.

Accommodation is in the coastal village of L’Ampolla, just a short walk from the boats. Options range from self-catering apartments and chalets for pairs of anglers to larger houses with private pools and gardens. All include kitchens, living areas, bathrooms, and Wi-Fi, with easy access to restaurants, shops, and local amenities.

The Ebro Delta offers anglers a rare mix of giant freshwater fish and Mediterranean predators, making it one of Europe’s most exciting multi-species destinations.

"I loved every second of my trip to the Ebro Delta and would thoroughly recommend it. I wanted to travel somewhere reasonably close to home, where there was a good chance of getting plenty of bites and I wasn't disappointed, every day was busy with a wide range of species. The guides were first class too. "

"From start to finish this was an excellent trip. I didn't fancy the out and out big Tuna fishing that is also possible in Spain but fancied an array of different fishing and that's exactly what I got. I landed some nice Palometón (I think that's how it's spelt) plus a range of Jacks, AND on the last day, I even managed a nice big Tuna. A big thanks to everyone who made the trip possible. "

Fishing The Ebro Delta

When you think of fishing opportunities on the river Ebro in Spain, your thoughts will instantly drift towards the resident monster Carp and Catfish that inhabit it, but that’s not a true reflection of exactly what this incredible waterway has to offer; it offers so much more. Some 90 plus kilometres east, away from the famous carp and catfish region of Caspe, where this mighty river enters the sea, you will find the amazing Ebro Delta.

Covering an area of over 320 square kilometres, the Delta is one of the most extensive and exciting wetlands in the western Mediterranean. Much of the expanse is a designated natural park, home to rare plant species, fauna and an abundance of wildlife, including vast numbers of migratory and non-migratory birds. But, below the water in the Delta itself and just offshore, it’s equally impressive, home to a bounty of different species, including Tuna, Bonito, Bluefish, Palometón, Bass, Llampuga, Mackerel and Amberjack, to name just a few.

This gem of a fishing destination, new for us in 2022, is often overlooked and not on the radar of many travelling rods; however, it has enormous potential and offers anglers the opportunity to sample some exciting rod bending action just a short flight away.

Fantastic Mixed Fishing

For travelling anglers in Europe and beyond, the Ebro Delta is fast becoming one of the best, most desirable destinations for those wanting to experience a true Sportfishing getaway without the price tag and rigmarole of travelling to the likes of central America.

Located in the province of Tarragona, in Southern Catalonia, the Delta, as the name suggests, is formed by the mighty river Ebro, Spain’s largest river, which flows for an incredible 930 kilometres. It provides the Mediterranean with a great source of food, and its calm waters are rich with nutrients, attracting a diverse range of marine life.

Throughout the course of a year, it’s possible to target a vast array of different species. In-land, in the freshwater of the Delta, Carp, Black Bass, and Catfish are abundant, whilst offshore in the saltwater environment, it’s possible to fish for Bluefin Tuna, Bonito, Bluefish, Palometón, Bass, Llampuga, Mackerel and Amberjack, to name just a few. It truly brings another meaning to the term ‘mixed fishing destination’, and it’s possible to completely tailor your fishing days throughout the duration of your stay, depending on what species you’d like to catch and what methods you’d like to fish.

Saltwater Fishing In Spain

Over the years, as more and more anglers have fished and explored the waters of the Delta, the fishing techniques have developed dramatically, and now it’s possible to fish with and catch on a vast array of different methods, including spinning, popping, jigging, trolling and even fly fishing.

During the winter season, traditionally between November and March, the focus is often on the smaller species like Bluefish, Bass, and big Palometón and fishing for all of these on light spinning tackle can provide some brilliant sport. The bigger Pelagic fish, like Tuna, are resident offshore all twelve months of the year and can be targeted on various methods, although the most effective way and exciting way to catch them is with heavy spinning tackle and/or chumming on the drift. At certain times of the year, it’s also possible to catch them on topwater lures. If you’ve always wanted to catch a big Bluefin, then the Ebro Delta is a peak destination that will offer you a fantastic chance.

Spinning: April to May & the middle of July to the middle of September.
Drifting: April to May & the beginning of July to the middle of November are the peak.

A little-known fact is that the waters of the Delta also offer some excellent opportunities to catch a range of cephalopods, like Squid and Cuttlefish.

Note: One of the real benefits of our destination on the Ebro Delta is that all tackle is included, so you don’t have to worry about buying lots of new kit before your trip.

First Class Fishing Boats

For exploring the waters of the Ebro Delta, our destination utilises two boats, the Wellcraft 232 Fisherman and the Scout 260 Sportfish. Both feature state-of-the-art American hulls imported directly from their respective boat builders in America and are some of the fastest in the entire Ebro Delta.

Wellcraft 232 Fisherman – Measures 7.10m in length and 2.58m in width and can carry a total of seven crew members and a skipper, although it will comfortably hold four anglers. It’s equipped with a Mercury Verado 300 horsepower engine.

Scout 260 Sportfish – Is slightly bigger than the Wellcraft, measuring 7.98m in length and 2.69m in width. It can carry a total of seven crew members and a skipper, although it will comfortably hold five anglers. It’s equipped with a two Honda 150 horsepower engines.

Both boats have salt and fresh water pumps, a vivarium, Soft-top equipped with all the necessary rod holders to transport all the fishing equipment and rod holders embedded in the stern. As well as a central console, central seat and T-Top at angles of 30º and 0º; aft seat bench, bow seat lockers both starboard and port, 100-litre refrigerator and space both in bow lockers and centre console to store luggage.
