The Xingu river is known for its mighty Vampire fish, which is usually the main target for anglers who take on this river system, here we have the first report from the opening week at the lodge and by the sounds of things, the anglers all managed some amazing fish on the fly.
Xingu Lodge – 15/09/2021
The weather was sunny and stable in our first week with breezes blowing from 10 AM to 6 PM, having some windy afternoons on some of the days later on in the week. The water level of Xingu river is extremely low and the water color is super clear. A lot of good Peacock Bass were caught on the main river, while the streams showed very low water levels. Despite this, Wolf Fish were found in solid numbers and were brought to hand. We caught a few Payaras in deeper pools, but the group’s main focus this week was to capture a variety of species.
Hector and Federico had their first attempt at fly fishing, and they did so in style! They took casting lessons in the back yard of the brand new lodge, and shortly after, both of them caught their first fish on the fly!
They caught Bicudas, Matrinxãs, and large Peacock Bass. Well done boys!
