Partridge Shooting | Cenicientos Lodge | Spain

Overview

Tour code: SPA006

If you want magnificent grounds which include a variety of undulating areas where the red-legged Partridge thrive and fly effortlessly then welcome to Cenicientos. A number of copses interlude the sweeping hills and valleys to make for the perfect area for intermittent flushes of birds at all angles. The red-legged Spanish Partridge will continue to amaze you with spectacular acts of flight through the hills and ravines which run through this fertile topography. An abundance of quality shooting will be available with the strongest of quarry for the ultimate game shooting experience.

Location
The Cenicientos shooting estate is nestled deeply in the province of Toledo just 75 minutes South of Madrid. Exceptional grounds include a variety of undulating areas where the red-legged Partridge thrive and fly effortlessly. Cenicientos will give you diversity in your drives with ravines and valleys for the more challenging bird, yet the shrubs, copses and small trees will give you the more Spanish style Partridge which fly like the grouse, low and fast. The location of this estate is not far from the village of Cenicientos, Toledo and Avila where there are all local amenities.

Shooting
Javier is synonymous for his fantastic partridge shooting in Spain and his high standards and attention to detail is what will make your experience at Cenicientos unforgettable. He offers shooting over his 9,000-hectare estate of which he drives up to 3 driven days per week on different beats where shooting is permitted on a Sunday. Season dependant, you will be treated to a bag of 300 birds per day and birds will be both challenging and of the average display, but at the same time incredibly enjoyable. The topography will dictate the bird’s projection so a good reaction and skill are required. Although we have organised a specific itinerary for you, we can tailor aspects of the tour to suit your needs. Cenicientos hosts a minimum of 4 guns and a maximum of 8.

Additional Activities
For the non-hunting companion, there are city tours to Toledo for sightseeing and shopping.

Questions & Answers

Where is the lodge?

Cenicientos is a cosy, beautifully decorated lodge set amongst modestly kept gardens with views over the surrounding hills and valleys of Cenicientos. Only 75 minutes from the airport and a mere 18 minutes away from the shooting estate it really is conveniently close.

Where do they shoot?

With the Cenicientos estate just 75 minutes drive from Madrid, it’s a very well connected route. The estate consists of 7,500 hectares of varied topography including rolling hills and natural Mediterranean land, forests composed of beautiful fragrant oaks with deep valleys and steep ravines.

How long does it take to reach the shooting ground?

It takes approximately 18 minutes to reach the shooting ground from the Cenicientos Lodge.

What quarry will I shoot?

You will be shooting driven Spanish red-legged Partridge during your time at the Cenicientos estate.

What will the bag be?

There is a fixed bag number of 300 birds per day (2 x 300) but the opportunity to shoot more can be arranged on the day between the shooting party and the host should you wish.

How does the day work?

You will sit down for a good breakfast at the lodge before being picked up and taken to the estate where your secretarios/loaders will already have your guns and cartridges ready for you.

You will be accompanied by your secretario/loader all day where you will enjoy 4-5 drives. After the first two drives, you will stop for elevenses including some tasty snacks and some oloroso which is a heavy, dark, medium-sweet sherry. After that, you will be stopping again after the third drive for some lunch which will be held in the field.

From there you will continue shooting through the 4th and 5th drives until the bag has been reached. You will retreat back to the lodge between 4.00pm-4.30pm for some well-deserved rest and a cup of tea before you meet again at 7.30pm for a cocktail before dinner at 8.30pm.

Do the guides speak English?

All the guides and lodge staff speak very good English.

Who is best suited to this destination?

A selection of varied birds will be the order of the day so will suit a range of shooters from the intermediate to the well-seasoned. Whatever the level gun, the thrill of some superb flying partridges from the undulating scenery will be a treat to either.

What skill level is required?

An intermediate competency level is needed for this trip and type of shooting. You will have to be quick and efficient because the speed and trajectory of the presented game will be quite demanding during certain drives. So a fair amount of skill is required for this type of game shooting.

The well managed lodge together with the gastronomy makes that Spanish country style house a great place to stay and enjoy friendship and endless conversations about traditional driven shot as well as walk up hunting.

I have shot at Cenicientos for the past 4 years. Each year the drives get more exciting and the food more delicious. Javiers attention to detail makes each trip very special. I look forward to enjoying many more days at Cenicientos.
