Guided week with Sportquest Holidays – Å Fishing Report

What a fantastic week it was for this group of amazing customers, although there was some days with bad weather, this didn’t put a stop to the fishing!

Our week in the big halibut capital of the world started in fine fashion with both boats landing Halibut on day one from the nearby Moskenstraumen.

Luckily for us, we found a little hotspot and brought 8 up to the boat, with the best being a very respectable 164cm, which equates to a fish of 130-150lb. A fine start.

Days two and three were ones of exploration, with head guide Alex taking us to a rarely fished area an hours steam to the south of camp. Although the fishing was slow during certain periods of the day, halibut were caught by some of the boats on the day and a chance stop in some areas on the way home saw my boat find good numbers of cod and Coalies to over 30lb. This was great sport for a good few hours. We also picked up two Halibut around these heads with the vest at 120cm.

Day 4 was the start of the poor weather, with conditions making it difficult to fish effectively. Persistence paid off once more though, with 2 more halibut brought to the boat and a few good fish hooked and lost also.

Day 5 was so bad weather wise that all boats were advised to stay in the harbour. A warning we took note of and adapted to, by going shore fishing. Although the gear we had was limited due to this being a boat trip, my knowledge of the local shore marks ensured we got some action at least on an otherwise write off of a day.

The last day of the trip remained windy and difficult, but all boats got out at least. Despite our best efforts, we could only scratch out a few fish between us, which included Coalies, Dabs and a brief Halibut hook up.

On the whole, it’s fair to say it was another week of two half’s, with the weather being the deciding factor once again.

I’m now back home for a few weeks, which will give me plenty of time to restock the rig box ready for the start of the shore fishing season in a few weeks time.

Until then, tight lines.
