Pirarucu Lodge Fishing Report 25th October 2024

Weather Conditions
This week brought sunny skies and warm temperatures, with the mercury holding steady at around 30°C (86°F).

River Conditions
The water levels continue to reach historic lows, with the current level being the lowest in 60 years. While this made navigation a bit more challenging, it also concentrated the arapaima in the deep pockets of water, turning Pirarucu into a treasure trove for those in search of the ultimate trophy.

Fishing Summary
Week 5 saw the return of a group of eight anglers from Kazakhstan, here for their second trip—and in their words, it was “very niiice.” The conditions, though extreme, only amplified the adventure. With the arapaima concentrated in smaller areas, the opportunities for big catches were endless, and the group made the most of every cast.

The week’s standout moment came when one of the anglers hooked into a 237 cm (7.8 ft) monster, a fish that required all the skill, consistency, and determination the group could muster. After a battle full of jumps and tense moments, the group celebrated the victory with classic Kazakh enthusiasm, dubbing it “a very niiice catch” indeed.

Fishing Stats

  • Number of Anglers: 8
  • Total Fish Landed: 16 Arapaimas
  • Largest Fish: 237 cm (7.8 ft)

Highlights of the Week
The biggest highlight of the week was, without a doubt, the capture of the 237 cm Arapaima. The fight lasted over an hour, and each leap was met with gasps of awe. The group’s excitement was palpable as they worked together to land the fish, which took center stage in what will surely become a legendary story among Pirarucu anglers.

In addition to the fishing, the wildlife and bird sightings around the lodge added a unique dimension to the experience, making this week both exhilarating and peaceful in equal measure.

Looking Ahead
With water levels expected to continue dropping, the upcoming weeks promise even more concentrated fishing and opportunities for additional massive catches. Though the drought has created challenges, it has also offered an incredible gift to anglers—an unmatched fishing experience where every session could be the one that delivers the next record-breaking arapaima.
