In the sheltered fjords of Lavangen, Troms og Finnmark, Aa-gård Lodge offers anglers access to one of Norway’s most consistent and rewarding fisheries. Known as the world’s largest pantry, these fjords hold all of Norway’s iconic species, from Halibut and Cod to Coalfish, Wolffish, and Redfish.
Halibut here average 40–50lb and deliver long, punishing battles, while Cod run to 15lb on average with fish to 50lb landed each season. Coalfish thrive in the fast-moving fjord currents, testing tackle with blistering runs, while Wolffish and Redfish add constant variety. Fishing is from quality aluminium boats equipped with modern GPS and sonar, with many of the most productive marks located just minutes from the cabins. The calm, sheltered waters make this destination accessible for newcomers while still challenging enough for seasoned anglers.
Back on land, Aa-gård provides a comfortable base in a rural, family-owned setting. The restaurant serves traditional Norwegian dishes built around local produce, complemented by a wine cellar perfect for private tastings. After you have cleared customs, a representative from Aa-gård Lavangen will greet you and transfer you to the fishing camp.
The transfer takes around 1 hour 10 minutes.
Once you arrive at the camp, the owners will introduce you to your cabin and give you a very quick briefing on the boats and the equipment supplied. After this, you are free to fish.

As you have your own boat, there is no time limit to how much or how little you wish to fish and even at certain times of the year, it remains daylight for 24hrs. The fishing can be as close as a couple of minutes steam from the cabins.

A family-owned camp, Aa-Gård is open all year round and has been hosting anglers and tourists who like to hike, bike, ski for more than twenty years. The destination is an excellent base for the perfect activity holiday and those seeking a slower pace of recreation.
The camp offers a range of accommodation to suit pairs of anglers through to larger groups of up to six anglers, all staying in one cabin.
A popular cabin amongst travelling rods is one named Abbabu. Located just thirty metres from the marina and renovated in 2020, it features a living space of 54m² and three bedrooms, with four beds. (two single rooms and one twin.)
It offers a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, oven, microwave, stove, coffee maker and kettle, a comfortable lounge area with seating, a coffee table, satellite TV, underfloor heating, and free Wi-Fi. It also comes supplied with bed linen and towels.

One of the beauties of Aa-Gård is the fact it offers a self-catered or fully catered option depending on your preference. In the lodges, you can easily cook for yourself at the end of each fishing day, or if you’d prefer, you can visit the on-site restaurant.
The restaurant is open for groups of at least eight people (we can confirm before you book if it will be open) and serves traditional Norwegian food cooked with local ingredients, combining traditional recipes and flavours. Below the restaurant, there is a wine cellar, perfect for wine tasting.
Aa-gård fishing camp is situated in Lavangen, in Troms og Finnmark county, in northern Norway. The municipality encompasses the land around the Spansdalelva river valley and most of the area around the Lavangen fjord, south of the Astafjorden. The camp is set in a peaceful, rural location and is a popular destination amongst travelling rods who visit in numbers to sample the excellent sea fishing on offer.
The fjords of Lavangen, around the fishing camp, are easy to navigate, and good fishing is found almost everywhere, with many of the best spots just a stone’s throw from the cabins. Described as fishing in ‘the largest pantry in the world’, the waters are rich and home to all the species that Norway is famous for, with abundant numbers of Cod, Halibut, Coalfish, Wolffish and Redfish. In addition, thanks to the protection from the surrounding mountains and topography, the destination is almost weatherproof. Whatever the weather, it’s almost always possible to fish nearly every day of the year. Thus, the camp is ideal for first-timers travelling to Norway as well seasoned pro’s.

The main three species that attract travelling rods to Aa-gård are the Cod, Halibut and Coalfish, as with most of our destinations in Norway. However, there’s also a range of other backup and smaller species on offer, such as Wolffish and Redfish.
A bottom-dwelling fish, found in depths ranging from a few metres to hundreds of metres, in most ecosystems, they are near the top of the marine food chain. A well-equipped predator, they feed on almost anything they can fit in their mouths, from baitfish of all sizes to crabs and squid. They can grow to over 200lb in weight, and although the fish caught at the camp average between 40lb and 50lb, they provide anglers with a real sporting challenge.
A shoaling species and a favourite amongst travelling rods, they move in large, size-structured aggregations, and their diet consists of small fish, molluscs, crustaceans and worms. However, they’re not fussy, and with their colossal bucket mouth, they will consume most things they come across if in a feeding mood. The fish at Aa-gård average around 15lb, although much larger specimens to over 40lb and even 50lb get landed every season.
The Coalfish, ‘Coley’ or ‘Saithe’ as it’s also known, are members of the Gadidae family and are beautiful looking saltwater fish with streamlined bodies. Pound for pound, they’re one of the hardest fighting sea fish. They feed primarily by hunting other fish and scouring the seabed for any food found there; the juvenile fish tend to be found close to the shore, particularly in rocky areas, and tend to move out into deeper waters as they grow.
*Please note that, by Norwegian law, you’re not allowed to intentionally target and catch Halibut until the 20th of April each year.
One of the enormous advantages of fishing at Aa-gård is the location and the fact that it’s virtually considered weatherproof. Situated in the north of Norway, in Lavangen, in Troms og Finnmark county, it’s heavily shielded and protected by the land around the Spansdalelva river valley and most of the area around the Lavangen fjord, south of the Astafjorden. As a result, the waters close to the camp are generally calm, whatever the weather and very few, if any, fishing days get lost throughout the season.
To explore the waters in and around Aa-gård, quality aluminium fishing boats are used, all of which feature 60HP engines and a range of electrical equipment, including GPS and Sonar. The vessels are incredibly stable, can accommodate four anglers and are perfect for fjord fishing.

All ten boats are easily accessible and are moored less than 100m away from the cabins in their very own marina, which means each day you can be fishing within a matter of minutes after setting out.
Besides the first-class sea fishing on offer, another thing that makes Aa-gård so popular is the wide range of non-fishing activities available. So if you fancy an afternoon off from the fishing or travel with a non-angling companion, then there’s plenty of extra activities on offer.
Lavangen is a beautiful place to bike around, and there are plenty of off-road trails and scenic routes to enjoy. There is almost no traffic and experiencing the beauty of the fjords on two wheels is a fantastic excursion. The camp has a few bikes to rent out if it’s something that takes your fancy.
If you prefer to explore on foot, then there’s a whole host of trail networks available. Some start from sea level and climb up to one thousand metres altitude, passing a series of valleys and waterfalls and providing some incredible views. Others mosey through the cultural landscapes. The beautiful village of Tennevoll is situated just 15 minutes away and is a perfect spot to visit.
At the right time of year, the conditions for Cross Country Skiing are fantastic. There are three different area’s all of which feature illuminated tracks and span for over 3 kilometres. There is even a ski competition with a trail around Spanstind, usually set in April.
A huge sport in this region of Norway, Ice climbing in Troms og Finnmark county attracts climbers from all around the world. There are plenty of quality waterfalls and coastal ice climbing available, including the largest waterfall in the region, a monster of almost 600 meters high.

Everybody in the sea fishing community has heard of the island of Sørøya in northern Norway, primarily famed for its incredible Skrei Cod fishing, for some of the most significant specimens on the planet, including the current world record. However, through the years, it has developed into a true ‘all-year-round’ destination, allowing anglers to enjoy some incredible mixed fishing.
We were exceptionally proud to be involved with the Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing Christmas Special to Norway in 2022. Mikkelvik Brygge is protected by the large islands of Rebbenesøya and its smaller neighbour Hersoya. As a result, the coastal waters close to the camp are generally calm, whatever the weather and very few fishing days get lost throughout the season. It's famed for its Skrei Cod fishing, as well as its fantastic Halibut and Plaice fishing.
Rognsund, located in Rognsundet in the southwestern part of Seiland, is Norway's eighth most significant island and the second-largest in Finnmark, behind only Sørøya. A beautiful island destination, the sheltered waters are home to abundant numbers of Cod, Halibut, Wolffish, Ling, Redfish, and some of the very best fishing spots get found within a stone's throw of the camp.
When staying and fishing at Båtsfjord Brygge, you will soon get immersed in the full beauty and experience of Norway’s Finnmark coast.
