Soroya fishing camp is one of the world’s best sea fishing locations and currently holds the world record rod and reel caught Cod at 104lb. With this in mind, we have partnered up with Big Fish Adventures to offer UK anglers the Exclusive opportunity to venture to “the land of the big fish”.
The destination of Soroya fishing camp is world-famous for the big fish that inhabit these waters; in the winter, the monster Skrei cod move into the area and provide visiting anglers with some truly fantastic sport. It is not only the tremendous Cod fishing that Soroya is world-famous for, but this area also produces some extraordinary Halibut fishing in the Summer months with 2 metres plus fish caught here every year. A considerable benefit of this destination is that there are full-time guides who work throughout the year to ensure you are fishing the right areas, advise on tactics, weather reports, and any other issues you may have. The fishing guides can be booked for the entire week or the odd day during your stay. There is a huge advantage of hiring a guide, especially if it’s your first time fishing Sørøya. Head Guide Bilal will always put you on the fish and specialises in Halibut fishing.
There are different boat options at Sørøya to suit everyone’s budget, we have based our standard package on the sleek 22ft Aliminium boats which are perfect vessels for the surrounding waters.
This destination is in a village called Hasvik on the Island of Soroya, which is in Northern Norway. The destination of Hasvik in Soroya is one that many anglers will have heard, and the Soroya fishing camp is famed for its fantastic fishing. It produces some world breaking excellent Skrei cod fishing in the early season but prepare yourself for some harsh weather conditions and now with commercial flights landing on the island and no ferry crossing needed, it couldn’t be any easier to make your way over to Sørøya.
Once spring has broken and you start to move into the summer months, Sørøya comes into its own and offers some genuinely epic Halibut fishing along with some superb offshore fishing for Coalfish and big Cod.
This Island is a truly magical destination and one that any sea angler has to visit; with its many fjords and access to the open sea, you can fish this destination in most weathers. With the airport being a very short drive away, once landed, you will be at the camp in no time at all, meaning no long transfers once you have arrived. Soroya fishing camp is located near the local port of Hasvik, where you will find supermarkets and the resorts bar/restaurant, which is a great place to socialise with other anglers from around the world.
The primary season for catching enormous Skrei Cod is March and April. March and April are when the massive shoals of Skrei Cod travel from the Barents Sea to the spawning grounds located around the north of Norway.
Soroya fishing camp is not just about the early season Cod; each year, Sørøya produces giant Halibut above 200lb. It is also home to many other species, such as the mighty hard fighting Coalfish and the Redfish. The majority of your fishing here will be done from your boat using shads or dead-baits, depending on which species you are looking to target. You can also catch Plaice and other smaller species by scaling down your tactics if you wish.
For the offshore fishing for Cod, the best tactics are to fish with a big silver chrome pirk lowered to the bottom and then jigged up and down. Shads also pick the giant Cod up if you are after that trophy summer Cod.
Most anglers will choose the self-drive option on their Norway fishing trips as this allows them to go to sea when it suits them. We have 45 boats from 19 feet, 22ft, 23ft, and 25ft. Here is a bit of information about the new boats. The 19ft aluminium boats are spacious; they have 50 Hp four-stroke engines and come equipped with sonar and GPS. 3-4 people can fish comfortably onboard, and life vests come included.
We also have two upgrade options available; first, the Kaasbøll 660SC is an excellent looking, fast and stable 22-footer, and with its delicate and sporty shape, it cuts nicely through rough seas. It has a deep V-bottom, which provides outstanding seagoing characteristics. The boat is solid and built for people who want to move quickly out to the banks, even when the weather is a bit choppy.
The second option is the Kaasbøll 760HT, a large, powerful aluminium boat with a hardtop centre console. Its modern and sporty design makes it a very desirable boat to fish. It has a slim and deep V-bottom that makes this vessel withstand rough sea at high speed. With four people, you’ll have more than enough space.
Both of our upgraded boats come equipped with two Garmin echoMAP 92s and the GT51-M transducer. With this rig, you will use standard sonar and down view and side view options. With this transducer, you can easily see fish down to 300-400 metres. They will also come equipped with Zipwake, a dynamic trim-control system that automatically calculates the boat’s weight shift and compensates for this.
What that means in practice is that the boat will remain correctly angled while driving, making the V-bottom work optimally. The system has an excellent and reliable automatic mode, so you don’t have to trim it manually. The engines of the models are the trusty Yamaha F150DETX. We have had Yamaha on all our boats and have had very few problems during our 16 years. We are confident that this is the engine that is the best for our guests.
There are guides at Soroya fishing camp who will be willing to help with any questions you may have; we can also organise days with the guide and even fully guided holidays at extra cost. Ask one of our sea fishing team in the office for more information on this. We recommend booking at least one day’s guided fishing; this will give you a great start to your fishing experience, especially if it’s your first time at Soroya fishing camp.
Head Guide and owners son, Bilal, really knows his stuff and specialises in anything to dow ith Halibut. If you decide to arrange a day’s guided fishing with him you will soon realise his passion and the vast amount of knowledge.
As Soroya is an Island, it can be a little exposed, but you usually will find some shelter if the day is windy. March & April tend to be cold months with average temperatures of around freezing. When May arrives, the temperatures start to lift, and you should expect temperatures of about 5 degrees upwards. Late June, July and August are the best months when average temperatures range from 10 degrees to the mid-’20s. June, July and August, you will witness another famous occurrence, and that’s the 24hr light which is something to see.
The destination of Soroya needs no introduction; renowned as a giant fish hotspot, Soroya is a fantastic destination to visit. With a run of huge Skrei here in the winter months and the ever-present big Halibut here during the summer months, this is one destination that every sea angler has to fish at least once in their lives.
The accommodation at Soroya made up some fantastic Norwegian cabins that sleep up to 7 people (single beds and bunk beds). These are self-catering units with all the mod cons needed to ensure that your Norweigian fishing trip to Soroya goes as smoothly as possible. The kitchen and living room are open space, meaning that you will have loads of room to cook and relax after a hard day catching monster fish in your downtime.
The kitchen area has a refrigerator, stove, microwave oven, coffee machine, kettle, dishwasher, and anything else you may need for simple cooking. This apartment has a TV set with a channel package and wireless internet. These cabins have spacious living areas and bathrooms, creating the perfect place to rest your head after a long day out at sea.
Alternatively, you can upgrade to the new cabins, called the BFA resort; each house has two floors over a total of 86 square metres and six beds distributed over three bedrooms. On the first floor, you have two bedrooms, a bathroom with a shower and a washing and drying room. The first floor also has a terrace heater so you can sit and enjoy the stunning view even during the cold days.
If you walk up the stairs, the open kitchen and living room welcome you, and if you turn your head right, you get a jaw-dropping view with the whole wall made out of windows! There is also a balcony you can enjoy your morning coffee on.
The kitchen has a stove, dishwasher, fridge with a small freezer, a coffee machine, a microwave, etc. There is also a bathroom and a bedroom on the second floor.
These cabins are solely self-catering, meaning that you will be cooking your food whilst enjoying your stay. Soroya fishing camp has its hotel with a restaurant found a short 5-minute drive from the cabins. Also, there is a local supermarket selling all you will need for your weeks stay.

A fantastic week from start to finish, with the best sea fishing I've ever experienced!
The hotel was a great option. Food, drink hospitality first class. Armed the proprietor would love to see somebody from Sportquest. He is very proud of his operation and would love more english.
New housing, dock and boats represent large investment. We all took far too much equipment, its all there at UK prices. The fishing was made difficult by the weather.
Hello Stephen, so glad you liked the set up. The guys over there have made huge investments and by the sounds of it, it shows. I would love to go over there right now but a little too busy, it will have to wait until March 2020 when I am running a hosted trip after the Cod.
All the best
Paul
Welcome to Torsvåg, this stunning location in Norway, offers sea anglers the best of both worlds. First, its location is minutes away from the fish-filled open ocean, where you will find some excellent banks that rise from the sea bed offering the perfect grounds to target Halibut. Second, this part of Norway is known worldwide for being the 'Halibut Capital'
Loppa is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, in northern Norway. The fishing camp, situated in the sheltered town of Bergsfjord, opposite the island of Silda, is renowned amongst the sea angling community for its array of fantastic fishing opportunities, for Skrei Cod in the spring and Halibut in the summer.
Aa-gård fishing camp is situated in Lavangen, in Troms og Finnmark county, in northern Norway. Thanks to the protection from the surrounding mountains and topography, the destination is almost one hundred percent' weatherproof' - whatever the weather, it's possible to fish nearly every day of the year.
Rognsund, located in Rognsundet in the southwestern part of Seiland, is Norway's eighth most significant island and the second-largest in Finnmark, behind only Sørøya. A beautiful island destination, the sheltered waters are home to abundant numbers of Cod, Halibut, Wolffish, Ling, Redfish, and some of the very best fishing spots get found within a stone's throw of the camp.
Mikkelvik Brygge is protected by the large islands of Rebbenesøya and its smaller neighbour Hersoya. As a result, the coastal waters close to the camp are generally calm, whatever the weather and very few fishing days get lost throughout the season. It's famed for its Skrei Cod fishing, as well as its fantastic Halibut and Plaice fishing.
