The guys over at Soroya were all patiently waiting for a day with weather like this, and when it finally came, they knew that the big Halibut would be out feeding!
Soroya – 03/08/2021
Yesterday the weather forecast was insane so we had to give the big Halibut a shot! We filled our boats with gas and started on our journey. We stopped a few places to get some different sized bait and went on to the spot where we were going to fish for the big butt’s! We started our first drift with a lot of big fish showing up on the sonar, but they didn’t want to play. While I was enjoying some music and Snapchat I could hear my reel screaming slowly, I checked the sonar and this fish was big! She did not want to set up her pace so I just waited till she layed down on the bottom.
I started reeling in and the fish was hooked. I said to Sigurd that this was a big fish, maybe even a new pb, after a good fight and some enormous headshakes we could finally see her and secure her! This was a new Pb for sure. we measured her to 182cm and man she was a fat one!
We moved back to where we started and Sigurd threw out his sandeel and got a bite right away! The following headshakes made me say that this was 150cm+ guaranteed! When she first surfaced we thought she was about 140cm ish, but man we were wrong! She started swimming down again. Some reeling and pumping later we got her secured! She measured 161cm! What a beauty on spinning gear!
Congrats on your new pb buddy! The other boat also managed to get some good ones with a 140cm fish in the boat! Both of the boats got smaller fish around 10-20kg as well so the day was a success! The fights with the two biggest is caught on camera and will come soon! Stay safe and tight lines!
