Pluma Lodge in Tsimane is unarguably the best Golden Dorado fishery on the planet and also in the opinion of most of the experts- one of the top 10 fly-fishing destinations worldwide. Located in a remote indigenous territory of Bolivia where the Andes meet the upper Amazon, the Freestone Rivers each season sees hundreds of thousands of baitfish migrate up the river system and with them come thousands of large, aggressively feeding Golden Dorado. Tsimane has three distinct operations, Pluma Lodge, Agua Negra Camp and Secure Camp, all located within a 25-mile radius in the headwaters of Bolivia’s watershed Pluma Lodge, which overlooks the Pluma River is considered the most deluxe and diverse of the Tsimane lodges. Strategically located in the middle of the Pluma River below the confluence of two world-class systems, the upper Pluma and the Itirizama.
Location
This lodge caters to eight anglers per week with fishing mainly based on both up and downstream of the lodge. In addition, below the confluence of the Pluma River and Secure River you have an additional 30 km of the larger Secure River. This additional section offers the biggest water in the whole of the Tsimane program and fishing these sections is not too dissimilar to classic Salmon & Steelhead fishing.
Fishing
Each day pairs of angers will head out with a skilled Argentine guide and a native assistant. Anglers fishing the main Pluma, the Upper Pluma and the Itirizama will depart the lodge by dugout while customers headed to the lower larger Secure River will drive 45 minutes through the jungle via four-man ATV where you will meet your boatman. For customers looking for that ultimate experience, Pluma also offers optional one or two night backpacking-style trips on both the Upper Pluma and Itirizama. These overnights offer unparalleled sight fishing for large Golden Dorado and Pacu. These trips are physically demanding with several hours of aggressive hiking and multiple river crossings that are needed to reach these prime waters, making this the most arduous of the Tsimane offerings. Food and shelter will be very simple but if this is what you like, you are in for an incredible experience with some of the most pristine wilderness sight fishing imaginable. Please note: while dugouts are used often at Pluma, customers will spend lots of their time out of the boat both fishing and walking. Due to the overall distances that need to be covered and the hot weather, this trip is best suited for reasonably fit anglers who are comfortable with multiple stream crossings and rocky terrain. But please do not let this put you off in any way as any of the many beats available through Pluma Lodge can offer the best fly fishing available. This is a true fly fishing adventure of a lifetime, so it is no surprise that returning customers say this is one of the best fly fishing experiences they have ever had in their life.
