Sette Cama, Gabon Fishing Report 28th October 2024

The fourth week of the Gabon season saw our first full group of fly fishermen, facing tough conditions as we eagerly awaited the arrival of the rains. Gabon fly fishing has been inconsistent, as the bait hasn’t been holding in the river mouth as it typically does when large volumes of fresh water flow into the sea. Nevertheless, we found fish, mainly jacks, during first and last light. The snapper remained in good numbers at night over the rocks where the mullet were holding. A few quality kob were also caught by anglers who persisted. We even had some fun with bull sharks, which are still frequent around the river mouth.

One morning, some of the group opted for a jungle walk to seek out gorillas. Although no gorillas were spotted, they were rewarded with a spectacular leopard sighting. Shortly after, a herd of buffalo was seen grazing in one of the clearings. We also observed hornbills, parrots, palm-nut vultures, fish eagles, and many other fascinating birds. Walking in the jungle is an incredible experience, surrounded by the sounds of birds and insects, and towering trees that dominate the landscape.

It was a memorable week, with everyone catching some fish and enjoying new experiences. Hopefully, the rains will arrive soon, and the fishing will become even more exciting!
