Camp Steinfjord is built for anglers who like scale and variety. Each season brings opportunity. In March and April, Skrei Cod flood into the fjords, vast shoals of migratory fish with specimens over 50lb landed every year. As spring rolls into summer, Halibut move into range, with fish between 20lb and 50lb common and trophies over 200lb possible. Coalfish smash lures in fast water, their speed and strength demanding sharp reflexes, while Plaice, Wolffish, and Ling provide steady variety. Here, every drift has the potential to deliver something memorable.
The camp is located directly on Steinfjorden, giving immediate access to both sheltered fjords and open sea. Fishing is done on the drift, covering wrecks, reefs, and proven marks just fifteen minutes from the dock. The location ensures there is always somewhere to fish, whatever the weather. Anglers use top-spec self-drive boats fitted with modern electronics, or they can book onsite expert guides for as many days as they choose.
Accommodation is designed for flexibility, with options to suit all group sizes. Cabins and apartments feature comfortable bedrooms, private bathrooms, kitchens, and communal spaces. The camp also includes a large drying room, filleting hall with freezers, and a tackle shop stocked with essentials. Evenings can be spent at the nearby pub or at the Fat Cod restaurant, where fresh seafood is served with sweeping fjord views.
This is a holiday for anglers who like power, variety, and challenge, framed by comfort on shore and world-class fishing at sea.

As a fishing destination, Camp Steinfjord is famed for its fantastic mixed fishing, providing you with the opportunity to target specimen-sized Halibut, Cod, Coalfish and Plaice, to mention just a few.

Camp Steinfjord in Norway is located on the dramatic northeastern side of the famous island of Senja, the country’s second-biggest island. Carrying a long tradition of fishing, having previously been used as a local fish factory, which offers a clue about the quality of the angling in the region, it was newly refurbished in 2017. It now provides travelling anglers with a range of generous facilities, including comfortable accommodations, premium boats, a seaside restaurant and, of course, some fantastic mixed sea fishing opportunities for all manner of species, like Cod, Halibut, Coalfish and Plaice, to mention just a few.
Thanks to its location on the eastern side of Steinfjorden, it’s one of our most weatherproof destination, meaning that whatever the conditions are, there is normally always somewhere to fish. The main fishing grounds are around a fifteen-minute boat journey away and offer the chance to wet a line for a record-breaking Cod and Halibut all year round. (The Norwegian Halibut fishing season runs from April 20th to December 20th) It’s also a destination that offers self drive sea fishing holidays, along with fully guided packages, utilising one of the four onsite guides.
Exclusive to us in the UK, Camp Steinfjord is a modern, forward-thinking Norwegian Sea fishing camp, with everything designed with anglers in mind.
This trip is also available as a hosted tour exclusive for Sportquest Holidays customers and is ideal for solo anglers, pairs of friends and even small groups. Our team of hosts are hugely experienced as both hosts and fishing guides and are well travelled, taking trips of customers around the world and fishing in a wide array of different environments. You can see the hosted tour here.

The fishing season at Camp Steinfjord runs from March 1st until November 1st, and it’s possible to check in on any day. Full weeks and half weeks are also available.
During the early part of the season, the leading quarry for travelling anglers is the famous Skrei Cod. For those who don’t know, the name ‘Skrei’ literally means ‘to migrate’, precisely what millions of Cod do every season: journey from the Barents Sea back to their spawning grounds. These vast shoals of giant Cod, some of the most significant found anywhere in the world, can be caught offshore at the camp and specimens over 50lb are not unusual.
As the season progresses and the Skrei Cod disappear, leaving just the resident fish, which are plentiful, the fishing changes. With the Halibut season opening on April 20th, these giant flatfish become a primary target as they venture into shallower water. April, May, September and October are particularly popular for specimen hunters looking to target the most significant specimens.
Along with the Cod and Halibut, as already mentioned, Camp Steinfjord is a true mixed fishery and offers the possibility to target and catch good-sized Coalfish, Wolffish, Plaice and Ling.
Like most of our camps in Norway, a wide variety of fishing methods work, all being fished on the drift, allowing your boat to cover more ground and explore fish-holding hotspots. Rubber shads, like the Savage Gear Cutbait Herring, are the most popular choice for the Skrei Cod in the spring and general fishing throughout the year. These lures can be used in varying depths of water and work best when slowly bounced along or just off the bottom of the sea bed.
If you’re looking to concentrate your efforts on targeting Halibut, the shads mentioned above will work and account for a good number of fish, but we recommend fishing with a Coalfish dead bait on a long flowing trace, anti-twist lead and a large, strong circle hook. Lower this set up to the bottom, then wind up a few turns of your reel handle to fish it off the sea bed. The Halibut’s eyes are on the top of their heads, so they need to be able to see it as it drifts over them.
Over the last few years, especially when fishing in shallow water, spin fishing for Halibut has increased hugely in popularity. For those who don’t know, medium/large-sized rubber Sandeel imitations are used and cast away from the boat before being slowly retrieved as they bounce along the bottom.
For the smaller species, bait fishing is the name of the game. For the Plaice, small hooks baited with frozen prawns catch plenty of fish, while for the likes of Redfish and Wolffish, baited pirks, feathers, hokkais or gummi macs are one of the best options.
Are you travelling to Camp Steinfjord and want to avoid taking your own tackle? Then it’s no problem; the camp has a vast range of quality tackle for hire, with rods and reels from leading manufacturers like Penn and Shimano. If you take your own tackle and need to stock up on any items throughout your visit, there is also a well-stocked tackle shop onsite.

All the fishing boats at Camp Steinfjord are new Kvaernö 615s with 115hp Mercury Sea Pro engines. They come equipped with Lowrance elite ti2 fishfinder and chartplotter combos, and each has VHF radios.
Kvaernö Boats has a long history of building quality boats designed for the rigours of sea fishing in Norwegian waters. They are safe, stable and spacious for four anglers and their tackle. New for 2024, the camp has also introduced three new guide boats kitted out with all the safety equipment required by Norwegian law.
If you’re looking to visit Camp Steinfjord but want to avoid driving your own boat, then booking a fully guided week is possible. The camp has four onsite guides, which can be booked for as many days as you wish, subject to a surcharge and availability. These guides are professionals and experts at navigating the offshore waters and finding the fish. They are well experienced and know where to fish at which states of the tides. In addition, they will be on hand to offer advice on rigs, tackle and baits, land your fish, and take that perfect picture for your fishing album.
If you’d like to book a guided day or a fully guided week, mention this at the point of enquiry, and one of our team can help.

Everybody in the sea fishing community has heard of the island of Sørøya in northern Norway, primarily famed for its incredible Skrei Cod fishing, for some of the most significant specimens on the planet, including the current world record. However, through the years, it has developed into a true ‘all-year-round’ destination, allowing anglers to enjoy some incredible mixed fishing.

We were exceptionally proud to be involved with the Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing Christmas Special to Norway in 2022. Being the first time the programme had ventured outside the UK, it took a tremendous amount of work to produce the itinerary and cater for the thirteen-strong production team, but it was a fantastic couple of weeks away. If you enjoyed the programme, here is more information on Paul and Bob's trip and the itinerary it followed.

Aa-gård fishing camp is situated in Lavangen, in Troms og Finnmark county, in northern Norway. Thanks to the protection from the surrounding mountains and topography, the destination is almost one hundred percent' weatherproof' - whatever the weather, it's possible to fish nearly every day of the year.

Mikkelvik Brygge is protected by the large islands of Rebbenesøya and its smaller neighbour Hersoya. As a result, the coastal waters close to the camp are generally calm, whatever the weather and very few fishing days get lost throughout the season. It's famed for its Skrei Cod fishing, as well as its fantastic Halibut and Plaice fishing.

Rognsund, located in Rognsundet in the southwestern part of Seiland, is Norway's eighth most significant island and the second-largest in Finnmark, behind only Sørøya. A beautiful island destination, the sheltered waters are home to abundant numbers of Cod, Halibut, Wolffish, Ling, Redfish, and some of the very best fishing spots get found within a stone's throw of the camp.
