Olderø Lodge, Fishing Report 22nd September 2025

Conditions at the start of this week were looking great, with the river steadily dropping from 15.5 cubic meters and water temperatures around 14 degrees Celsius. It looks like some summer weather is on its way, but nothing that should influence the conditions too much.

Our arriving guests were a good mixture of familiar and new faces. After hearing tales about how last week ended, everybody was ready to jump into their waders and start fishing. It didn’t take long for 82-year-old Fritz to continue the trend of hooking into big, fresh fish. Fritz was fishing his warm-up session in Zone 1, where he soon found himself in a battle with a big one. The fish gave Fritz an awesome fight but had to admit defeat in the end. The fresh male Salmon measured 98 cm and 10.4 kg, giving Fritz a new personal best. A great way to start the week, and congratulations to him—after many years of fishing, he finally has a 10 kg+ fish to his name.

The next few days were a little slow for big fish, but a strong run of fresh grilse started moving into the river. This resulted in all of our guests hooking into these smaller but powerful fish. A total of 13 grilse between 52 and 72 cm were landed during the week, with more lost as well.

Amid the run of grilse, some of our guests also had chances at much bigger fish.

Tom hooked a really nice Salmon, but during the fight it ran the line into a tree and got away. Our longtime friend of the lodge, Gerald, was the second to finally bring one all the way to the net. He was fishing in Zone 2, passing through a pool where he’d had good luck in previous years. Once again, this year, he found a taking fish there—a beautiful male of 9.4 kg.

The week ended with more grilse landed and Blake having two chances at big fish. He was fishing the last session in Home Pool, where he saw a large Salmon roll not far from his fly. A few casts later, he lifted his rod into a solid fish. The fight was fast, with the Salmon taking some hard runs, which quickly tired it out.

Only a short time before giving up, the 10 kg+ Salmon made one last run and came off. Staying positive, Blake kept fishing, and half an hour later he hooked into another Salmon of similar size. Unfortunately, he was defeated again. We hope to see Blake and the whole group back for a revenge trip.

The warm weather looks set to continue a little into next week. But with all the fish currently in the river—and many more on their way—we are confident that there will be some good fishing ahead.
