Tiger Fish Tanzania: As another week kicked off in the Kilombero Valley, the guides gathered above the river, comparing notes on water levels and the season ahead. Their early optimism proved well founded — the fishing switched on in a big way.
The Ruhudji is clearing fast, packed with smaller fish and the occasional brute hidden among them. Watching a subsurface fly get destroyed by a pack of tigers never gets old. The Mnyera, meanwhile, remains the darker, more powerful sister river — every cast feels loaded with the potential of a 20lb fish. It’s a river that rewards precision and punishes mistakes.

Every now and then, a guide witnesses a fish that redefines what’s possible. This week, that fish belonged to Marty.
He connected with a true giant — a tigerfish that stretched belief and smashed the 20lb mark, weighing in at 24lb. After a brutal fight, the fish came to hand, gleaming gold and black, before powering away strong and healthy. A fish of a lifetime in every sense. Well done, Marty — what an unforgettable moment.
When Tom arrived in camp, he admitted he was new to fly fishing but was all in for the challenge. The Ruhudji rewarded him quickly with his first-ever tiger on topwater, followed by a flurry of smaller fish. Then came his days on the Mnyera, where things escalated — two 14lb tigerfish on fly. Most anglers spend a lifetime chasing one like that. Nicely done, Tom.

Between sessions, the valley reminded everyone why it’s so special. While anchored mid-river replacing leaders, two elephants crossed upstream — calm, deliberate, and utterly wild. Moments like that make you pause and appreciate how raw and untouched these places still are.
Epic fish, evenings by the fire, cold drinks, and the sounds of the valley all around — it doesn’t get much better. Thanks to our guests for another memorable week in tiger country.
