The customers on our hosted trip to Goodnews River Lodge in Alaska have just returned home after an incredible, memorable week on the water. Targeting King Salmon, the group landed 20 fish over 20lb, including a standout 40lb specimen. Alongside the Kings, there were also Chum, Sockeye, Humpies, Dolly Varden, an early Silver, and some incredible Rainbows up to 10lb.
If Alaska’s wild rivers and Pacific Salmon have long been on your bucket list, this trip offers the perfect mix of species, scenery, and shared experience. We’re now taking bookings for next year’s hosted week, and with limited spaces, it’s strictly first-come, first-served.
Here’s some feedback from customers who joined us on the trip:

“This was quite an adventure! The flight into the landing strip in low cloud (only got visibility at around 450 feet) was exhilarating, as was the jet boat trip across the bay and up river to the camp. The camp complex is entirely hand-built, everything works just fine, but you would struggle to describe it as luxurious – this really is a fishing camp.
The first afternoon was a bit of a shake down, reminding myself how to cast a skagit line – particularly whilst standing on a boat. Still managed to net a couple of fish.
Day one, fish one – a large, fresh King Salmon that decided to head back to sea and in two strong runs took all of my line and half of my backing with it! The guide was excellent and set me up with a new line etc, whilst we enjoyed a very welcome bowl of hot soup at lunch.

The camp staff and guides were great, though I wish I had brought one or two more items of warm clothing, as it was pretty chilly, particularly when travelling at speed in the jet boats.
Managed to land a fabulous 25lb King whilst fishing from a gravel bank, a great tussle and one of the best fish in my lifetime (the only bigger one being caught in British Columbia on another trip arranged by Sportquest!) Had a fascinating day, some 30 miles up river, catching Dolly Vardens (saw a Beaver, a small Bear and Bald Eagles on the way). These fish are related to Arctic Char, are great fun to catch and put up quite a fight.

On our last day, we specifically targeted Chum Salmon, using small flies, and had a field day with these feisty fish. Some hit the fly like a train, others have the gentlest of takes. Between the two of us, fishing on the boat that day, we netted over 30 fish and lost almost as many again. They ranged in size from 6’ish to 15’ish lbs. Don’t be fooled – the smaller ones will take you all over the pool every bit as much as the bigger ones.
During the week, we also managed to catch three pinks (this is not a Pink year) and the first Silvers of the season, so it was a great week to choose.”

“This was my third visit to Alaska, and the fishing was slightly slower than in previous years, but still very enjoyable. The fishing guides varied in quality, but overall, they were very good, with some being excellent.
Robert was great as a tour leader and we are now good friends with the other group members which added to the pleasure of the trip. Overall, a great and memorable experience.”
