Olderø Lodge, Fishing Report 11th August 2025

Coming off the to-date biggest fish of the season on the last session last week, we were very excited to get this week going, knowing that we are closer and closer to seeing bigger runs of fish making their way into the river.

The conditions were looking great, both weather- and river-wise, though with some heavy rain forecasted for the beginning of the week. For the first part of this week, we welcomed 10 new guests to our lodge, a group of family and friends from the UK, most of whom had never fished Lakselv before.

Heading out to the river for our “warm-up” session, the anticipation was high for the group. This anticipation was soon turned into joy for Paddy. He was swinging his full floating line when a big fish met his fly on the surface. After a hard fight, Paddy finally saw his fish being landed by his guide. The beautiful female Salmon measured 100 cm and weighed 11.8 kg.

The next days, the group fished very hard, and a few fish were hooked but managed to get the better of our guests. Especially Henry, who had to face defeat against a very big fish after a tough fight.

Midweek, the group went home with unfulfilled dreams, dreams we hope will be realised when they return for a full week next time. A new, smaller group replaced the previous guests, arriving to a river that felt like it was just about to reach its perfect condition.

On the Saturday, Nadeem got to experience exactly that when, on one of our Zone 2 beats, he hooked into what would turn out to be his personal best Atlantic Salmon. The male fish took a big, bright fly in the sunny weather. After an intense fight, where the “buck” refused to give in, Nadeem could finally see his target fish in the net. The result: a 99 cm, 11 kg Salmon.

The day after, it was George’s turn to test his strength against a Lakselv monster. George, being a seasoned angler with very big fish on his résumé, had no doubt that this was one of them. From start to finish, he fought the fish hard and skillfully, and in the end, he watched the biggest Olderø Salmon of the season glide into the guide’s net — a stunning male of 111 cm that dragged the scale to 15.8 kg. What a fish to end the week! The first 15 kg+ hat of the season was proudly handed to the happy angler.

It looks like exciting times are ahead, and we are looking forward to the upcoming weeks.
